Let’s get to know…Part 2.

June 8th, 2008 | By: Jan | 9 Comments »

Well well well….we have seen some tremendous posting here lately on predictions, line ups and fave players but the most interesting thread to me was the introduction one.

I loved reading all about you. Feels like we’re a real gang hanging out in my cinema room watching the games together. What a blast that would be!

I’ve done some silly stats on your comments, the Dutch way (winging it a bit):

Background

As was to be expected, some of us are Dutch-born, some of us are from a Dutch lineage, some of us are non-Dutch, but passionate fans anyway. Here’s the breakdown:

Dutch-born: 12,5% (most Dutch borns would normally follow a Dutch-language blog)
Dutch lineage:47,5%
Non-Dutch: 40,0%

Age-group:

12 - 24yrs : 40%
25 - 40yrs: 47,5%
40+ : 12,5%

I loved to read where all you guys are of are from… All those exotic names…. Yukon, Kathmandu, The Hague, Yucatan, Northern Beaches Sydney, China, Jakarta, London, Byron Bay…

And the different job-types :-). We have an Indiana Jones, an A.I. specialist and futurologist, authors, teachers, Chines Oranje-website moderators, students…

And there’s the personal stories… Finnster always gets me with his Neeskens shirt story… The Envy!!
Bob who traced down his lineage back to the 1600s… Goosebumps. And now he also tells me he trained with none other than Willem Meulendijk (is that his name?), the famous heir of Wiel Coerver’s technical skills-training. The man worked all over the world preaching his passion and recently he was handpicked by Sir Alex to train the Man United talents his skills… That must have been an awesome clinic! More Envy!

Thanks for all the sharing and to finish this off on a positive note (what with the Italy match coming up), this is Finnster’s video-link from the introductions-thread and it’s a wonderful piece of coaching.

I believe Dick Advocaat modeled his management style on the guy on the right :-)

Alaa, ever been to Holland? I am obviously biased and all, but I never though of Holland as a pretty country… It’s the weather I guess. 8 out of 10 times it’s dreary, grey weather (in my memory) and the country is really really crowded. Well, the cities are. In the south, east and north is quite ok and the city of Maastricht is really pretty. Of course, Amsterdam on a spring day is magic. The girl on bikes, the Vondelpark, the museums, the canals and quaint shops… But overall, having lived there I always think Holland is pretty..lame…

But then again, most Aussies I meet who have been to Holland adore it, so…I guess it’s just me :-)

Hi,

this is the first time I write a comment here, but I was reading your interesting blog since 2007 before the world cup. There are a lot of information I got here about the dutch team. My summary I got here is that Dutch team is a very good team, plays a very attractive , has many talented players but sometimes they forget to score :D.

I love Holland , not only the dutch soccer team. I lived there for one year in 1987-1988 in Leidchendam near Denhaag. And also my wife studied in Leiden in 2003-2004. I was in Aachen Germany during that time, so I can go to Holland every week. The people in Holland is warmer than the German people. After my stay for 4 years in Germany, I still can’t manage to not to hate the Germany soccer team hahaha. I even mad when I knew my wive bought the Germany t-shirt for my son. I think I pass for being a dutch fans hehe.

I am from Indonesia living in Bandung city near Jakarta. I called myself as a computer scientist rather than a programmer :p. I have interest to the agent-based system, it’s an AI stuff. It’s also interesting to know there is people also interested to agent-based system, MAS. Too bad I know it now, otherwise we can meet on the OAMAS conference last May. I was there.

Last comment, I really respect what dutch people do for maintaining our culture. I can see that when my wive studying Indonesian history. One can say Dutch people loves Indonesia more than Indonesia people. That’s ironic , actually. But at least there are people having research for our history and culture and that is good. Your library in KITLV Leiden has collected many information about our history and culture that in Indonesia is not really manageable.

Jan,

What is this exam you speak of? Where do I take it and what do I have to say.

I’m sorry I’ve been so quiet, actually I’ve been quiet for almost 6 months, sigh though I’ve been reading most of the posts. I just don’t have the flair and the info like certain characters in here do. Anyways since the Euro really starts for us tomorrow. I’ll start paying attention and trying to comment more.

That’s it Alaa. And Kyle, if you had the tenacity to be with us for 6 months and keep on returning, you’ve passed yours as well.

6 months Jan… hmmm I think I’ve been following your blog work for atleast the last 2 years, just before that world cup.

Ah well, I’ll go work on that orange blood, not sure what yellow dye I can inject in myself to have orange blood cursing through my veins.
