Leroy Fer: Viera in De Kuip

Leroy Fer doubted for quite some time whether to choose for Oranje or the Dutch Antilles. The 19 year old powerhouse, born on Curacao, has a flash of a season’s start and seems to be on Van Marwijk’s radar.
The Feyenoord midfielder was the leader of Young Oranje’s victory over Young Finland (2-0) last week and intends to do this next Sunday against Willem II again.
Team manager Cor Pot strolled towards Fer in the Oranje trainings camp and told him that he saw similarities between him and Patrick Vieira. The famous French midfielder won everything there was to win with France, Arsenal, Juventus and Inter Milan. “Is that cool? When they compare you with someone like him, that’s a true compliment.”
The comparison is more than just a physical one. Vieira was born in Senegal but chose to play for his second home country. The way Vieira challenges opponents, that’s exactly how Fer likes to do it. Bert van Marwijk said earlier on he though Fer had “great potential”. Fer: “I’m so glad with my game against Young Finland. I may not have played my best game ever but I sticked to the gameplan.”
Cor Pot confirms. “Fer didn’t play a remarkable game. The fans won’t even be able to remember two decisive actions, but he always deserves a 7 and he started both attacks that resulted in goals. Fer has tremendous future.”
The midfielder earlier in the season heard ex-international Rene van der Gijp and Johan Derksen mentioning his name in a tv program. They wanted to see Fer play for the big Oranje. “I was actually watching the tv program. My mates immediately called me, after that. But, it’s all speculation. I’m with Young Oranje now and will have to prove my salt. At Feyenoord. That’s top priority numero uno.”
Fer hopes that he continue his winning streak with Feyenoord against Willem II. In the last season, Fer was merely a sub in the two games, which Feyenoord both lost.
Willem II brings back bad memories. “I played in Feyenoord A1 two seasons back. The last game was against Willem II. We could win the title if we beat them. And we did. But I had played too many games for Young Oranje and that’s against the rules. So, Feyenoord lost those three points and Sparta won the title. That is the memory I get when we talk about Willem II. And it isn’t their fault, but I want to revenge myself against them.”
The midfielder wants to go to the Olympics in London 2012. To play football, but also to meet Usain Bolt. “A living legend. That guy is phenomenal. I am a huge fan. I recently celebrated a goal with De Guzman like Bolt does. To honor him. But to actually meet him… That would make me happy.”
I think Fer could make a tremendous center back too, like Rijkaard. He’s pretty tall and an excellent header!!
Leroy fer: Frank raijkard in de kuip :p
promising player , i think marwijk used him as a right back too , anyway .. I just can say he is far far better than engelaar and da silva . But i would take de zeeuw , schaars , v.bommel and de jong over him … He is too young for the world cup ,
v.bommel will retire after the WC and so he can take his chance … But there is no problem to put him in the stand-by list for now !
There is another player also called dominique kivuvu , he has many things in common with viera , he is playing for NEC Nimegen i think !
kivuvu is cap by angola, no longer eligible for orange

Ajax’s Mitchell Donald is a bit similar type of player. Also some time ago I noticed Geert-Arend Roorda from Heerenveen. He impressed me then. But after he had a serious injurie haven’t seen him again.

BTW I thought Kivuvu had a good season when he really stood out at NEC, but that was it. But he wouldn’t be fit for oranje anyway.

If Fer is the next Rijkaard we are in good shape, but for Euro-2012!
Hey guys, check out EFFL.com, its a really cool SIM LIGA I belong to. Here is the squad I put together. I had to trade Vaart to get NDJ. Marcellis and van der Wiel were bought by other owners and I have not been able to get them yet, but I will! What do you guys think?

, keep us posted!
i havent yet seen his lay, 1 thing i would like 2 put in 1 notice.. the dutch hasnt have any good midfielders as of now whu would get the ball in to the second half that well, it is time 2 search for a player
I think Van Marwijk will stick with the four established holding midfielders going into WC2010: Van Bommel, De Jong, De Zeeuw and Schaars.
I believe Mendes Da Silva has blown his chance. For a surprise package, my vote goes to Wout Brama, I think he’s one of reasons Twente is in ascendancy these past couple seasons. The Dutch FA and fans alike need to be a little bit careful hyping up new kids in the block, such in the case of Leroy Fer. High expectation can derail their progress. Remember that Fer has only been in senior team for one season, a season full of adjustment to say the least from Feyenoord’s standpoint. In my view, the logical progression for Fer is to stamp his spot this season, play week in and week out, and bring Feyenoord back to the top 4– in addition to becoming a key piece in Jong Oranje. If he can handle this, then we can start talking about his being called up to the Senior Oranje months down the road. Having said that, I think the chances of Fer (and De Guzman and Wijnaldum to this matter) becoming big household names are pretty good in the years to come.

He’ll be better than Viera. He’s faster and a good dribbler. He deserved a place in World Cup 2010.
For our defensive midfielder, I’ll choose:
van Bommel, De Jong, Schaars and Leroy Fer.
