Least popular player.. thanks Goose :-)

Goose said: who are your most hated players???

1. Totti: always have hated him..remember him spitting on deZeeuw, stamping on Berbatov..good player but the biggest asshole in football
2. Ronaldo: dont think i need to explain but do so anyway,haaha..diver, always crying ond portugees (sorry Louis, nothing personal)
3. Nigel de Jong: his father was a thief, steeling from teammates..overrated player, ugly face
4. Zlatan: should play in a circus, great streetfootballer, shitty teammate, dirty ellbowing basterd
5. Balak: best german footballer at this time..thats enough for me
6. Ali Boussabon; marrocan player, fat, crossed-eye, wanker, cry baby..just hate him
7. Roberto Carlos; dont know why..just dont like the lad

some classics:
Rudi Voller (nice one Frank!)
Andy Moller (remember that pose when he scored against England
Bebeto: scored that goal against us in 94 and started that stupid little dance
Lothar Mattheus; great footballer but what a german!!
i see there a lot of germans here… theres obviously still a lot of hurt..hahaha..

I’ll put in my 2cents:

I never liked Roberto Carlos myself. Didn’t like his attitude on the pitch and all his high powered shots on goal miss the target by at least 20 meters…

I never liked Horst Hrubesch. Or Vieiri. Totti is high on my list as well. Other players…Preben Larsen from Denmark. Not a big fan of Inzaghi.

Goose: where’s Christiano Ronaldo :-) ?

@ferenc; I don’t know why really, I’m sure they are nice guys. They are so played up by the media and they seem to be so cocky and above everything, and it tends to rub me the wrong way. So I really don’t mind seeing them get whipped every once in a while. I could be my natural instinct to pull for the underdog.

Hahahahaha :-)

V Persie may have a weird voice but his Dutch accent is even worse. He lived and played with a lot of street Morrocon kids and took their accents over. He is now married to a Morrocon girl so the accent will stick. I later found out (Goose?) that a lot of young kids in cities in Holland speak Dutch with a Morrocan accent. Dutch kids!!

Hated teams-Germany,Portugal and Belgium(Holland never won any world cup game against Belgium).Hated players- almost all of them are already mentioned, with them I’d like to add Tafarel and Blanco from Brazil(Blanco destroyed Holland’s hopes in WC94 with a missile-like freekick from long distance, never heard of him anymore).

Branko! That’s right. A limited player with a banana shot. The free-kick that was awarded to Brazil was a joke and Bebeto blocked De Goey’s vision in off side position. I even think Romario or Bebeto scored in off side too.

He was rubbish, that Branko! Good point there Dr….

he doenst really have a maroccan accent (and no dutch kids have that) its more a kind of street-lang. were theres all sort of lang. is used (surinam words, turkish, maroccan etc.)
vanPersie speaks dutch with his wife and i dont think he speaks any arab

@Hup: your too tough on Luis, hes alright..for a portugeese that is

that f Branco ,what a disaster that was..they scored an offside goal and then got the freekick (wasnt Overmars almost choked??) but deGoey didnt look too strong to be honest

Nice link Goose. With goals like that it makes me think “who needs Henry anymore?” But that’s a whole other conversation.

As for his voice though, he sounded pretty normal to me. I didn’t watch the other interview, but in the link Goose sent his voice seems deep enough and his accent doesn’t sound strange.

haha; there you go Jan, its just my dutie as your direct link to the old counrty..haha

@Tjeerd: i did.. funny to see them play without helmets… can you educate me a bit on hockey..what do i have to watch for?? have been into hockeyfights for some time but my knowledge on hockey is very limited (actualy watched some Derek Boogaard (like to watch players with dutch names like Cam Janssen or vanderMeer) vidios last night)..funny, we in Holland are nr1 in field hockey, we are among the few real skating countries but we have no ice-hockey-culture (we had a decent national team in the 80’s)
Was Orr better than Gretzky?? Whos your most popular fighter?? Enlighten me all you Canadian-dutchies!!

Goose: Hockey is HUGE in Canada. The money spent on arenas, training, kids hockey is huge. My son played 3 years of Ice Hockey and you would not believe the commitment parents have in there sons playing Ice Hockey.
Bobby Orr played in the 1970’s era. He transformed the game. Comparing him to Gretzky is like comparing Cruyff to Pele. I am biased to Orr, others to Gretzky. Orr played when few NHL players wore helmuts, now they all do. Many Dutch Canadians are top players in the NHL. The Staal Brothers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Staal
Joe Nieuwendyke http://www.nhl.com/players/8449893.html
there are many others. The Dutch “second generation” immigrant generation are very well represented in the NHL.
Fighting is accepted in Hockey, you only get a five minute penalty. Fans love it and it keeps the game “clean” in a strange way. (You do not see dangerous stick slashing).
Most of the very top players rarely fight, I do not think Gretzky ever fought, if a player from the opposing team did something to Gretzky an “enforcer” like Marty Mcsorley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySXNy3wVNVs
would step in step protect Gretzky.
I follow Dutch Speed skating and find it exiting, (Renje Ritsma etc), it has very little following here. Cindy Klassen took up speed skating because she got cut from the Canadian Womans National Hockey team. She is probabley more popular in Holland then Canada.
I could go on and on Goose, any more Q’s just ask.

Cheers Tjeerd; really like hockey, im so sorry we dont have a ice-hockey (if you say hockey in Holland it means field hockey) culture
saw Gretzky in one fight, he got flattened with one punch

knew about these enforcers, heres a great one on Probert defending Yzerman (yet another dutchie i think)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03ImIx0XC4U

really love the fighting, esp. since its pretty clean, no hitting when a man is down (at least most of the time) and the commentators are brilliant..(saw your mayday video which was great) esp. how they comment on a fight..very funny

Speed skating is the biggest thing next to football..every dutch person knows C. Klassen (prob. dutch aswell, from Klaassen), the top dutch ryders like Kramer have top-model girlfriends (btw; Rintje has had his best times behind him

well sorry guys for the non-football talk but this is a rear oppertunity for me to talk about hockey

all links are welcome Tjeerd, thanx!!

Is Canadian ice hockey being aired on Dutch tv? I’m a Gretzky man. Best ever! What’s the current top 5 nations in ice hockey? Canada #1? Russia #2? Sweden? US? Finland?

Wow lotsa hate to go around.

IMHO, only Totti and Materazzi are players who merit some hate. There has been 5 minute youtubes of the attrocites committed by Materazzi. Total brutality.

As for the hockey, I think you would have to make the list top6 to be complete and would have to add Czech. They have some great players.

think its a brilliant sport, too bad we suck at it..

well hate is a big word but think its natural to pick players you like and players you dont, even if theyre sportive they can be hated!

Jan. Top 5 in Ice Hockey
1. Canada- it is no secret that over half of the players in the NHL (the top league in the world)are Canadian. Canada has the most depth.
2. Russia- Still have many good players since the break up of the USSR. They are skilled but lack heart. “only play when they want”
3 and 4 Sweden, and Czech. Both countries produce excellent players
5-6 Finland and the US
7. Slovakia
8. The rest are of a lower tier

The best young Hockey Star is Canada’s Sidney Crosby
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik-_3gHWbAU&mode=related&search=
This Nova Scotia boy is the youngest (last season at 19 years old)ever to win the NHL scoring title. Gretzky has said that if any one will break his scoring record it is number 87 for the Pittsburgh Penquins Sidney Crosby.

The most famous hockey Tournement in the history of Hockey is the 1972 Canada- USSR. Hockey Summit Series. The height of the Cold War. Bobby Orr did not play due to injury.
http://www.1972summitseries.com/index2.html
Canada won the last three games in Soviet Communist Red Russia to win the series 4-3 with 1 tie.
Every Canadian over 42 knows where he was when Paul Henderson scores the winning goal of the last game with a about a minute left minute.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWwN9kHnsKI&mode=related&search=
It was telivised live with poor quality at times.
I was in my basement screaming “Canada WON” to my understanding, but happy Dutch mother.
A recent “Canada Cup tournrment had the top six countries sending there best with Canada winning. Very famous winning goal by Lemeaux being set up by Gretzky

I would say that Sweden is better than the Czechs and maybe even better than the Russians at the moment, at least of you look at the results from 2006 where we won the Olympics and the World Cup. Our golden generation is sort of quiting now though, it might take a while before we fight about the golden medals again.

Just like in handball…

Lerkot you may be right, its all subjective between Russia, Sweden and czech. I took history into account in my list. My favorite swede was Borje Salming, one of the all time great defencemen.
Jan – the great one (Gretzky) is a part owner and coach of the NHL Phoenix Coyotes.
