Late lucky shot: 1-0 victory

March 28th, 2007 | By: Jan | 13 Comments »

Just quickly guys, we won…

Just.

lucky goal by Gio van Bronckhorst.

85th minute.

Took a reflection, but who cares….

5 Different players in the team.

And….Bulgaria couldn’t score against Albania (0-0). Meaning that Oranje’s position is actually quite good.

HAIL VAN BASTEN!!!!

Later more guys, gotta run….

We are now hailing Marco for the win…

How about I go find some flares to throw onto the pitch to mess up the perfectly constructed grass in Slovenia… sigh pathetic showing in the end that it took that long to score.

And also considering the extreme luck involved that goal. Not one but TWO deflections off of opposing players to finally outplay the keeper.

Ah yes we were quite lucky, in case those who haven’t seen saint marco’s lucky goal to keep him coaching here it is.

From the lovely man Gio… yes got to love the defensemen/midfielder scoring a cheap goal.

Gio’s Goal

Regards

Anyone who´s hailing because of that win should be ashamed. One lucky goal against a weak team isn´t something to cheer about. I feel that a loss would´ve been better for Orange in the lonng haul but that´s just me. Poor play( even against weak teams)and ok results just dont cut it for me, this is Orange we are talking about not some small young inexperienced team….or are we???

Wow. I didn’t watch the Romania game but this was quite a poor performance again. Slim victory came from a lucky shot that bounced off of two Slovenians and past the keeper. Oranje could’ve easily lost this game.

Just wondering how Robben has avoided the bench in Oranje. He has such amazing talent, but lately he is only wasting time when he has the ball because he will either run into 3 defenders and lose the ball or attempt to dive….

the problem is that with cheap win marco, the gravedigger of the dutch national team will remain the manager… i wouldn’t be surprised at all if after playing 5-5 minutes in both games clarence said no for the next invitation. this oranje doesn’t exist without him – he entered and after 1 minute gave a pass decisive to gio. ok,it was lucky, but…

By the way Ragnar, just to confirm with you I was being sarcastic with the idea of hailing Marco as a great saint…

That win was pathetic and does not help Oranje, a loss would have meant Basten out and some one new in… who that new person would be is beyond me though.

Van Basten is looking like a disaster. You can’t manage effectively when you 1) piss off just about everybody; and 2) seem unable to settle on the team’s best players. Hint: very good teams tend to have a nice mix of young talent and veteran leadership/savvy. Too much of either typically doesn’t work.

It was just lucky. Fortunately, Holland is grouped with Romania and Bulgaria. I think MvB cannot pick the right players. He must change to another formation. If Van Persie is fit (a 4-4-1-1):

———–Huntelaar———-
———–Van Persie———
–Robben–Sneijder–Seedoorf–
—–DM (De Zeeuw/Gio)——–
-Urby-Mathisjen-Bouma-Boula—

Maybe, if Ooijer is fit, he will play instead of Bouma. Bouma can be shift to Left Back position.

…At least we won…*choke*

Sorry, sometimes even I choke on my own optimism. Yeesh.

For those of us who didn’t see the match. Was van Bronckhorst playing midfield? How did the team line up exactly? Was there anything mildly positive about any of the changes made?

@mike: was very interesting line-up:

vdSar,

Heitinga; Mathijsen;Bouma;Emmanuelson

vBronckhorst;Sneijder;Affelay

Robben;Kuyt;Babel

well anybody that replaces Landzaat and Jaliens are welcome, we played much better than against Romania (altough it couldnt get much worse than that). But still, after more than 3 years vanBasten there is still no core of players…hes still looking and trying…not very positive

The optimism that baffles me in these comments comes from the contributors that seem to think MVB would have been replaced for a lose against Slovenia. I myself am of the opinion that KNVB are too stupid, stubborn, and cowardly, to replace Marco until after he/ we get driven from the Euro tournament with nothing to show for it.
