Koevermans starts
Danny Koevermans will make his starting debut in Oranje against Luxembourg. The 29 year old PSV striker will form the strikers’ duo with Ruud van Nistelrooy. Till now, Koevermans came on twice as a sub. Sneijder will play the central playmaker’s role in midfield with Seedorf and Van der Vaart on the wings.
Oranje will start without any Ajax player. Yesterday, Van Basten sent six players home, who will need to be on call for the Wednesday match against Belarus. De Cler, Huntelaar, Maduro, Timmer, Nigel de Jong and Kew Jaliens are no longer part of the group.
Expected Oranje line up: Van der Sar; Melchiot, Mathijsen and Bouma; De Zeeuw, Sneijder and Van Bronckhorst; Van der Vaart, Koevermans, Nistelrooij aqnd Seedorf.

Expected line up 3-3-4? Wtf?

Gotta feel for Kuyt…. Koevermans with do well though, and I’m sure Kuyt will get his chance to knock in a few goals near the end of the game as well.

In other news, apparently Advocaat doesn’t want to go to Australia anymore to stay with Zenit. He was going to be introduced as bondscoach next week, if I read properly…

That’s a good thing for Australia I reckon. I don’t think Dickie is the best option for the Socceroos. Go Martin Jol!!!!

wow, a very attacking looking line up, I can’t wait! Hope it actually works out though..

Just read the article on Advocaat. Apparently, Zenit Petersburg offered him a new deal after winning the title. Dickie can make 2,5 million euros per year now. Again, it’s about the money with Dickie. I’d say: don’t come.
As for Oranje, the attacking line up is all well and good, but the main issue will be to score and to overwhelm the Luxies. The nation is not waiting for a win, everyone expects the three points. The nation wants to see attractive football and goals!
My guess is: Nederland - Luxembourg 7 - 0!
Three goals by Koevermans, two by Vaart, one goal Ruud van Gol and one by Kuyt as a sub for Ruud.
If Oranje gets a penalty kick, they should allow Sar to take it. The Thin White Duke didn’t score one single goal in his lifetime… ![]()

I thought van der Sar got a goal with Ajax.

That’s possible yeah, but not with Oranje… Anyway, too late now :-)…
The goal fest wasn’t to be….
