Koeman jockying for position…

November 1st, 2007 | By: Jan | 12 Comments »

It’s scary… The man has so much too prove. In a period in football where we have transfer windows, it’s obviously still easy to lure coaches away. Ten Cate and Chelsea, now Koeman to Valencia. That, in this case, Ajax and PSV relied on these two with their strategy and signing-policies seems to be irrelecant. A bigger club comes, with a bigger pay-check and off they go. In both cases though, Ajax and PSV are happy that the ambitious ego-trippers have left. We’ve discussed Henkie already, but Koeman is even worse… Koeman has already filled up his bank-account as a player and is desperately looking for some recognition as a coach… At Barcelona, his beloved Barca, he was only Louis van Gaal’s right hand man. At Vitesse, the financial circumstances of the club limited him in his work. We can’t judge him on that, but to say that he made his mark…no. Then Ajax came. “His” Ajax. But he never impressed or did better than the ones before him (Adriaanse and Wouters). He made wars with star players Ibrahimovic, Van der Vaart and Sneijder and after having sacrificed Louis van Gaal, he left himself. To Benfica. For three years. But after one season, Porto beat Benfica to the title, Koeman was lured back to another of “his” clubs: PSV.
Because, he said, his family wanted to go back to Holland. Well well.. one and a half year later they want to go to Valencia….

He took over Hiddink’s inheritance and did well for 3/4s of the season. With a 15 points lead, he started to choke and so did his team. His board was ready to axe him, until AZ and Ajax stumbled over their own legs in the finish of the season, leaving a totally flabbergasted PSV with the title. The PSV board quickly did an about face and kept Koeman on. But snowflake was hurt. And it would be a matter of time before Koeman would pay the PSV board back.
When Valencia came, it took Koeman a very limited time to pack his bags and go. “It was a dream come true,” he said. Uh? Again? After Ajax and PSV and Barca, Valencia is also your dream club? How does that work exactly? Every club with a lot of money is in that dream category, I take it?

And off he is, with Tonny Bruins Slot. Because he wants to work at a club with unlimited resources and with chances to win the Champions League. Yeah right. Koeman is just a bounty-hunter. A hired gun, whose loyalty only goes as far as the paycheck.

He signed on for 2,5 seasons. He never proved to be a top coach. He never won anything other than some titles with Ajax (riding the wave of Adriaanse’s work) and one title with PSV was donated to him by Ajax and AZ.

Congrats, Valencia…

Koeman is a slut and a whore who will go wherever the money is… i really dont think hes any good as a manager…without Bruin-Slot (who he ofcourse takes with him) hes NOTHING…just a name in a suit… if Koeman ever has any succes its because the knowlegde of Bruin-Slot and nothing else

Valencia should watch it cause if Rijkaard goes and Braca asks Koeman to be manager there he would go without the blink of an eye!

can any of you guys know of one player he actually made a better footballer??

the fact is that Psv had no real choice…if they were to say; ” Koeman, you have a contract so you dont go anywhere” there would be problems and know that they say; ” ok Koeman, go!” you have problems too

funny; in a few weeks time its Ajax-Psv; which should/could have been the match between tenCate and Koeman…but know, i think 10 days later its Chelsea – Valancia in the Champ. Leg. and that will be the match between tenCate and Koeman!! haha..think thats pretty funny

btw; Valencia got slaughtered 5-1 by Real yesterday…2 goals by Ruud the goalscoring machine!

Ajax beat Heerenveen in the KNVB Beker

good luck,Ronald. btw yesterday was Marco’s 43rd anniversary. Goose: i’m sure one day Koeman will become the coach of barca. but _one day_,not until 2010. rijkaard is laporta’s man and he will be there until the end of laporta’s days (next presidential elections will be in 2010 and one president cannot be elected more than twice). if results will come and laporta’s man – soriano – will be our next president, frankie might stay after 2010. if rossel won he would change the club and in this case new presidents usually start with new coaches. and who else could be the new coach of a new president at barca if not the living legend, the man who gave us our first cl? one little thing – koeman’s contract is until 2010. the exact time. but for now is sure that in the near term he will stay at valencia as well as frankie at barca.

btw yesterday clarence has a brilliant game again.

Ferenc, do you think Barca will sign the coach of Valencia? I don’t think in Holland PSV would chase the coach of Ajax or Feyenoord because that would imply the competitor has the better coach/better management/better decisionmaking. And there is the fan-stuff. Fans being hostile against coaches of rival clubs. Would that work in Koeman’s disadvantage?

I don’t get how he can say Barca is his dreamclub and then sign for Valencia?

It’s like JC signing at Real Madrid. Well, not really of course, Real and Barca is something else, but still… JC signing at Sevilla.

Smart move of PSV to stick with Wouters. Underrated coach, me thinks.

And Nillis back in the frame is great. What a player he was….

@Jan; Nilis was such a joy to watch, bit like with Littmanen or Petterson (whom i actually met and who was a great guy)… very gifted player and a very humble man (a quality i like in a player), not so sure about Wouters, did you ever see that docu on Ajax (”daar hoorden zij engelen zingen” i think it was called..Wouters came out very sad in this movie but maybe its just for a few games cause rumours are getting louder that Jol and Psv have had talks..

btw; anybody has the Wouters elbow on Gascoin on tape?? hahaha..been looking for it on the tube for almost a year..

@ferenc; hope Rijkaard will stay.. i think that if its possible its good to have the same manager for a long time (like Fergie, Wenger)
good to hear Seedorf has found back his form (and Milan for that matter)

just for laughs; heres a tube with the worst ’schwalbes’(no better word for it) ever (or at least some), enjoy;

Yeah, those boys could play.

What’s your fave team of foreign players that played in Holland?

I’ll give it a go from the gut:

Gomez

Maxwell Ivan Nielsen Popescu Heintze

Shinji Ono Jari Litmanen Kirsten Nygaard

Nilis

Ronaldo Romario

Subs:
Petterson
Jeliazkov
Soren Lerby
Jesper Olsen

Man, it’s too hard… :-) ))

Guys:

Some are being pretty mean to Koeman. He is a good coach. Of course he is not a top coach but he has won titles with PSV and Ajax already and if we all remember he did ok with Benfica in the Champions League. They even eliminated Liverpool at the tournament. He managed to get Ajax in to the quarterfinals of the Champions League some years ago and almost got them into the semifinal but a lucky last minute goal from Inzaghi killed Ajax.

He is a person that has been assistent of van Gaal and Hiddink and has been coached by Michels and Cruyff besides regular managers such as Advocaat or Beenhaker. What else can you ask?. He just started his coaching career a few years ago but now has plenty of experiencie and nobody can say he is not a leader because he is. He showed it as a player and certainly he shows it as a coach. I wish Koeman all the best in his new adventure. I will never forget his nice powerful shots!
