KNVB backs Marco van Basten 100%!!

April 3rd, 2007 | By: Jan | 7 Comments »

Henk Kesler always reads the remarks on our blog before he goes to work :-) . My latest post triggered him to publish this article on the KNVB website.

Marco van Basten and his staff can count on full confidence from their boss, Director Professional Football at the KNVB.

“We are convinced the team manager will be able to solve the jigsaw puzzle for the EC2008 and that they’ll offer us a fantastic summer in 2008”, Kesler said on the KNVB website.

The KVNB director was positive about the disappointing EC matches against Rumania (0-0) and Slovenia (0-1) recently. “The 6 points we went for were not acquired, but the damage – if you can speak of damage – was limited.”

“I thought the match against Rumania was poor, and I put it mildly even. But the match against Slovenia showed us a different Dutch team and I am pretty relaxed about it all.”

“And I can really empathise with the so-called experts who say that there’s not enough automatisms in our play at the moment. But, we need to realise that it takes years to construct a well-oiled team together. Marco and John started less than three years ago and I may just be too early to expect that type of football. But, I am convinced that in the summer of 2008 our team managers will have a team that can take on the strongest countries of Europe.”

Interesting article Jan. In North American profesional sports, when an owner has to comment publicly that the coach has his full support, it usually means he is on a short string. Having said that, assuming Oranje qualifies, I think MVB is safe until the end of Euro 2008.

I guess the only person in the world that believes that is Mr. Kesler. We are not talking here of van Basten the player. van Basten the player was an awesome player but as a coach he is making decisions thar are hurting the team. By his unlogical decisions and his bad treatment of important players he has lost RVN, Makaay and Bommel. He may lose Seedorf, Huntelaar and Kuyt as well if he does not give them the confidence they have to get from their boss. It is unlogical he says that he does not like stars when he was such a star and played with stars all his career. Without stars or the most important players like the ones I already mentioned, you can´t win trophies!. I am confident Holland will qualify at the end for Euro 08 because the group we have is not a tough group nd there are two direct spots this time but we will continue playing very bad and assuming that while San Marco is on the post some very important players will not be available that leaves us with the conclusion that in November or December of this same year Mr. Kesler will have no choice but to replace his idol with some real coach. Really hope that happens because if not I can assure the performance will be even worse than at WC06, we have the players, talent, intelligence and mental strenght but with this coach Hollad is going nowhere, we deserve to be competing with the very best and we have the level to do it but to do that you need a leader who can guide this boat to a happy ending. Do you think Marco van Basten and his pals are the right ones to do this huge and important task?. He has shown once that he can´t, wanna see it again?. Perhaps we go to quarterfinals vs Italy and our idol decides this time that Robin van Persie has to be on the bench the whole game…with San Marco anything can happen…but for the worse.

@Mario, good to read your comments, welcome to this blog, i totally agree..vanBasten should go away but im sure it wont happen till after we have made a foll out of ourselfs during the EC…i think that after the EC vanNistelrooij and Seedorf will wave goodbye so they wont play for Oranje under a new manager..
@Bob: well we may be getting on vanBastens case but i think we do have a point with our critism, of all the bad games ive seen Oranje play over the years prob. 3 or 4 from the top 10 worst games have been played with vanBasten as a manager…now i accept that the team isnt as talented as the team in 1998 or 2000 but we’re not suppose to be this bad…and the one man responsible is vanBasten so……

Yes MVB is a rookie coach, needs to learn to be a better leader and inspire men, like the knockout game we lost versus Porugal when Maniche proved fatal again (reference Euro 2004).

Despite the goings on on the pit by his players and to his players he stood there nearly dumbfounded.

Further, the team’s qualifying matches for Euro 2008 haven’t been all that impressive. I know its not the Dutch way and no you don’t need “Richard Wagner” meets “Bobby Knight” but coach needs to have a pulse as the minimum requirement.
