Kalou Denied Citizenship

March 22nd, 2006 | By: Matt | 2 Comments »

Kalou is not Dutch, according to the judge. Salomon Kalou has been denied accelerated citizenship in spite of Marco van Bastens requests. The Feyenoord striker has only been in the country 3 years. Dutch naturalization requires 5 years of residency. Kalou failed to meet language and culture requirements as well.

While Kalou can not play for Holland, he is still elligable to play for his native Ivory Coast. His brother Bonaventure is the captian. The Ivory Coast are in the same group as Holland. Will Kalou play with Ivory Coast or wait untill 2010?

Tough one. He has been invited to the Cote d’Ivoire squad a few time only to rebuff the invitations. I think he might wait till 2010 as he wouldn’t get into the first team with Cote d’Ivoire. Either way good luck to him

I can’t imagine he would ever be considered for a spot in the Dutch squad though considering the wealth of midfield talent. [...]
