The Dutch have ended Italy’s recent strangle hold on the competition and won the U-21 Championship in Portugal!

The Dutch had a very slow start to the tournament but came on when it mattered most beating Italy, France and finally the Ukraine when it counted the most. A brace from Klaas Jan Huntelaar and an injury time goal from Nicky Hofs sealed the victory against the Ukraine today. Klaas Jan Huntelaar was voted man of the match and now has 18 goals at this level, taking over the title of leading scorer. He also is the golden boot winner with 4 goals in the tournament. Nicky Hofs got 3.

In the “Team of the Tournament” fullbacks Dwight Tiendalli and Urby Emanuelson earned selections. The tournaments youngest player, Ismail Aissati was chosen for midfield while Klaas Jan Huntelaar was given a spot in the forward line.
