JC supports Marco van Basten

well.surprising…NOT!! ofcourse Cruyff defends his friend vanbasten..we all know that both just dont like vanBommel..saying that the latter played a terrible WC is maybe true but so did the rest of the team and they all got their (second) change to prove themselfs again, vanBommel never had a real change…

now if Cruyff says that its diificult to change tactics during a game hes maybe rigth but it also proves that the tactics used from the start by vanbasten were wrong

Cruyff can ask for the experienced players to step up but they have been trown out of the team or are benced (vanBommel, vanNistelrooy, Kuyt, Seedorf) i mean; who should step it up??

But again, you’re right. Van Bommel didn’t play worse than the others at the WC. Landzaat? Van der Vaart? Bommel was not himself with all the criticism from v Basten so I don’t think we can judge him on that WC. Judge Bommel on his Bayern matches, Nistelrooy on his Real Madrid matches… Do that and compare them with Landzaat, Maduro, Babel, Heitinga… We’re the laughing stock of Europe.

By the way…would Edgar Davids be a candidate to play on no. 4 as v Gaal called it? Centrally in the back, as the build-up man? He did play there once or twice with Ajax in the mid-90s and he did very well. How does he perform at Ajsx nowadays?

no Jan, Davids is a past station (is that an englisg saying??, i know its one in dutch, gepasserd station), hes to old…hes ok in the dutch leg. but as we have seen with Sneijder, its not the same level, but youre right that thats a crusial position, esp. in the built-up to the midfield and or attack…
and yes, together with the english were the laughing stock of Europe…hard times beeing a Oranje supporter

Ok, so who do we have that can play on that position… With a good eye for the game and a good, solid pass in his feet. I always liked Cocu on that spot, but that’s not possible anymore. Any other suggestions??

cant think of anybody…even cant come up with a name other than the ones already known, it prob. should be a midfield player with a decent psysiek (?), think a player like F.deBoer is what we need and what we dont have anymore, maybe in the future someone like Schaars who is a defensive midfield player who is strong and has a decent passing game…

Anyone else think that the coaching was a bit bizarre?

The team was clicking in practice with De Zaauw, who has peformed very well at AZ. But all of a sudden before the match, Van Baasten puts out Landzat? With a midfield looking entirely different? And then Van Baasten is surprised that it doesn’t work?

Reading about this is frustrating. There are tons of talented Dutch players, doing well. Of course, a surplus of attackers and dearth of defenders, but Van Bommel, Van Nistelroy, Kujt, are having good, solid years, but no invite. Yes, Van Bommel didn’t have a steller WC, but maybe that’s because he was being jerked around?

Let’s not forget that the national team doesn’t pay much. These guys make their cash with their club teams. That’s got to be their first priority. And Van Baasten still seems to have trouble making the basic decisions.

Oh, yeah, I guess Oranje and Arsenal miss Van Persie a lot more than they thought they would.

for marco a midfielder is a midfielder and that’s it. before tge wc i thought cocu should be the central defender – he did it at barcelona,but marco never considered this option.

@SK; yes it was strange but nothing new there..vanBasten has been unlogical on every department, it is just an other example of how things are f#cked up
true; vanBommel never played his best under the management of vanBasten cause of the pressure from vanBasten and his big mate cruyff, ive said this many many times before
was also wondering about the money and the lack of honour but think Jan is right when (s)he says that the problem is the lack of hyrarchie wich is fixed at club lever but is not existing in Oranje at the moment (vdSar is the big man but hes a goalie), maybe vanPersie could lead the way???

@ferenc:your comment on Cocu is very true..one of the things we miss is a defender who can play football (like FdeBoer, Rijkaard) but they are hard to find…

Cocu is a great analogy. Just because someone doesn’t play in a position usually doesn’t mean he can’t for then KNVB.

Although I agree that I’d prefer to see Huntelaar up front than Kujt, it appears that the side really needs a couple work horses. And Kujt’ll work.

Also still think it’s a bit futile to keep using the 4-3-3. Although I prefer seeing the wingers close in, almost all the top teams use 4-4-2. That’s what the players are used to – it’s hard to switch.

Second, I’d probably use Robben as a sub. That works for Chelsea, and like the way that speed works on tired players.

Marco van Basten must be fired as soon as possible. It is a shame for him because he was an exceptional player. But I think Holland has the quality to compete against any team of the world but Marco doesn’t know how to put this team together.
We have many youngsters with great potential and also great experienced players who must be used.
Marco doesn’t respect the trajectory of great players (Ruud, Bommel, Seedorf, Davids, Makaay, etc) who have been playing at the top for many years.
And how can Cruyff say that these experienced players haven’t steped up to lead the team when they haven’t been given the confidence by their own coach?.
The younger players have to learn from them and only performances will tell when they are ready to compete at the highest level.
To make it shorther I think we need experienced players and with a lot of guts.
