It’s a deal: Sneijder moves to Madrid

After a pathetic shadow boxing game with powerplay and broken ultimatums, Wesley Sneijder – Ajax’s captain – signs a contract for 5 years at the Royal Real Madrid! After Real Madrid took their 24 Mio off the table, apparently Ajax got them back in suggesting “meeting halfway” (in between 24 and 30 Mio or something). Real now pays 27 Mio for the little Leader and Sneijder took the first plane out of Amsterdam.

“We’re proud that after Ryan Babel another gem from our youth system goes to play for a European topclub. We’re happy for Wesley, he deserves it. There are no better midfielder than him. It does serve us up a problem (this Wednesday Ajax plays the CL qualifier) but we’ll sort that out. We always have,” said Henk ten Cate.

Yeah 27 million is far too much, I’ve never personally rated Sneijder – van der Vaart is 10 times the player, asks the question though, if Ajax can ger 27 million what could Hamburg get for vdV?.

Babel impressed me when he came on for Liverpool over the weekend by the way – Kuyt I thought played well too.

Peter V you asked the question that I’m dying to figure out. Why didn’t Real try to sign Van der Vaart? I actually think Sneijder is pretty darn good. But he just doesn’t have that star appeal that Van der Vaart has.

Real normally thinks star quality is pretty important. They like players with glitz and flash. If they were going to sign a quick play maker – why not the one with the flash?

Do you think that they were sick of players with flashy wives?

lars: malouda and wright-philips are more useful for the team than the extremely selfish and diving robben. if i were mourinho i also titularized them.

@goose: at least real will be more sympathetic. the problem is that drenthe, sneijder and robben wouldn’t be in the starting eleven at barca, but they will be at real. maybe sneijder but i’m not sure – iniesta is better for the same role. (or deco who i don’t like too much.) that’s it,so simple. if we had wanted any of them we would have signed them. obviously i would like to see dutch players in our team (but not robben),not only rijkaard and neeskens on the bench. i don’t change teams every year,i’ve been supporting barca and ajax for at least 30 years.

weird, i dont have that sense of belonging to a team.
I was a man utd fan for a long while. the day van the man left was the day i realized i couldnt care less abt man utd anymore.

I follow where the dutch go.

I’m just like you Rami. I liked Man U when Ruud was there, and now I don’t really care about them anymore (plus I think they are really stupid to let him go). I like Real now.
I follow where the dutch go too.

Real should be very interesting from our Oranje perspective this year. Ajax have made out very well on the Babel/Sneijder sell-offs. Very, very well. Can’t blame them. It may well screw their season unless van Geel pulls something out of his hat in the next few days.

Me,

I like teams that playing exciting soccer. Grew up with Ajax from afar. But enjoyed watching Arsenal last year, Barca, PSV and even DC United here in the States. (Not comparing levels of play, of course)

All those teams were pretty well coached and could really move the ball.

Arsenal of course has all those talented kids, who would just make sudden choke mistake. But exciting – yeah it was.

Stephen I think you’ve got AZ and Ajax coaches confused. It’s tough when on of the coaches name doesn’t start with “van”. :)

hehe..vanGeel is technical manager at Ajax…he used to have that position at Az (was actually quit a riot when it happened)..

im just like rami and caleb…the only team that i support outside Holland which will always be my favo is Celtic, dont care if theres any dutch at Rangers, just Celtic all the time (ofcourse you wont find many dutch internationals in the scottish leguea..vanBronkhorst, Venngoor, Ricksen(did he ever play for Oranje?))
otherwise im a bit of a slut..where theres dutch, ill support

latest: vdVaart told a german paper(Hamburger Abendblatt) he would love to leave HSV (now) to go to Valencia…maybe a possible explenation why Madrid haevnt aksed..he want to go there goes thats where his mothers family (hes half spanish) are form…Valencia made an offer of 13 mln euro but HSV already told Valencia that they are not willing to sell..but he..in football you never know!

Thanks for the eduecaton on the names! I was the one who was confused.

Of course if I were Hamburg I wouldn’t want to sell VdVaart.

My biggest question is still why didn’t Real even make a pitch to VandVaart? I thought his Spanish side were Real fans?

Which makes me wonder – does he already speak Spanish? Which of course would give him another leg up as a signing…

the germans are actually a bit pissed by vdVaart, Bild Zeitung called him “vanderVeraat” , hahaaha..stupid thing to say in a newspaper anyway right before or during the start of the season..

dont think he speaks spanish, few words maybe..btw youre right that his family is Madrid people but theyre from Valencia

dont know if Real ever made an offer, think its a ligitimed question..i would take vdVaart over Sneijder every day

Anyone notice the difference in transfer sums between vdv and Sneijder? Valencia offered half of what Real paid. I think both are hugely talented. Can’t really judge Sneijder by the way van Basten used him. He is a much better attacking midfielder while Van Basten used him in a more defensive role. (behind the other midfielders like a triangle with the point facing towards the defensive side)
VdV is victimized by playing for a crappy team…

I agree… It’s shocking. Van der Vaart should be as expensive as Wesley at least!! But, I can underatand the anger of the German fans. He flirted with a transfer some time back, then signed a new deal with HSV pledging to stay till 2009. I think he even has a clause saying he can go for a lot less in 2009.

vdVaart has f things up!! he lost a lot of credit (with me too) heres the story:

like i said before, since his little mate Sneijders move to Spain vdVaart has told german reporters he wants to move too (wich is a dumb thing to say when competition has already stared)
Valencia are interested but they want to play him in the Champ Leg. and HSV has a Uefa game tonight..so Raffie and his agent Soren Lerby (remember him?) were afraid the transfer might not go through

now vdVaart has been injured yesterday while picking up his little son!!!! he cant play tonight and can still play Cham Leg with Valencia

pathetic!!!! vdVaart has lost all of me support..what a little wanker..

i can imagine the germans getting really pissed and thats maybe the other trick..pissing HSV and her supporters for so long that they say: please leave!!

vdvaart sucks!

Goose,

Remember most of these guys are pretty young. And they’ve been told their whole lives that they walk on water. So they’re bound to be immature spoiled brats occasionally.

And the news must have hit VandVaart pretty hard. He’s always wanted to go to Real – and now someone has taken that slot from right under his nose.

Agreed that there’s no reason to pout and cry over spilt milk. He should suck it up and say G– v– d—-. But can’t really be surprised that he doesn’t see it that way right now.

Personally – If I were Man U I’d want him to work the other side from Ronaldo – who’s also a bit of a show boater. But a really good player.

@goose: just some words about the price differences – sneijder went to real, and if real wants someone the club doubles the price. this is normal because everyone know that real is the richest club of the world and also that calderon and mijatovic are two assholes.

valencia is a sympathetic team, it would be nice to see rafael there.
