“It was almost German”

I’ll you hunt for that phrase in this article. It’s fairly optomistic from a neutral’s point of view. It’s similar to what I ranted about a couple posts back. Also, I can’t believe noone has brought up the NED-ARG match from ‘98 yet! How could we all have forgotten that! I hope we end up with a memory on Wednesday similar to the one we have from 1998.

We had Dennis Bergkamp! That game from 98 was a phenomenal knock-out match. The next game is near meaningless. Some players have been through two gruelling matches: rest them. Let’s watch how Oranje B (they need the practice) handle Arg (prob B side) and make notes in case we meet them in the final. Meantime, focus preparation on Mex-Por (and Eng-Ger). There’s no way of controlling who we’ll play, even if we could guarantee a win against Arg.

Arg and Esp (nearly Ita) are the only teams to have played football to threaten Bra. They know how to play offensive possession, once ahead they switch to keep-ball. They don’t lose the ball cheaply, and they get it back quickly when it occassionally is lost.

Ned are currently some way off that: a quick fix and all the stars putting on an exhibition match only to bow out, exhausted, at the very-next hurdle is not the solution. The A team has earned a rest. They need to forget all the ifs, buts, maybes, pat themselves on the back and exercise their brains (usually an Oranje strength) on the teams playing superb possession football.
