Important win for Young Oranje over Spain

wijnaldum

Young Oranje made a huge step towards the play offs for the Youth EC in 2011. Cor Pot’s team won 2-1 against Spain at the Sparta Castle in Rotterdam. There’s seven tickets for the Denmark EC 2011 for grabs in the play offs.

The confrontation with Spain was the first serious test for Pot’s talented team. Young Oranje had won their first games easily against modest opposition. It was clear on the outset that Spain and Holland will fight for the first spot. Oranje impressed after the break. The team started slowly in the game but dominated the match after that.

Vurnon Anita, the Ajax midfielder, was the boss on midfield. The youngster won all his duels and immediately passed the ball into the fast wingers Wijnaldum and John. After 15 minutes, it was Anita who started the gameplay that resulted in the first goal. The perfect through ball on Wijnaldum allowed the Feyenoord talent to bring the ball into the box, where Sparta striker Falkenburg scored on his own ground: 1-0.

Falkenburg started due to Siem de Jong’s injury. Pot couldn’t use van Wolfswinkel either while Biseswar was suspended. Luuk de Jong played for Wolf while Joshua John made his debut – like Falkenburg – for Biseswar.

Chelsea defender Jeffrey Bruma led the defense and they never got in trouble. The 18 year old Rotterdam born center back demonstrated why Ancelotti allowed him to make his debut for the Chelsea first team. After an hour, Wijnaldum scored the 2-0 after a John cross with a placed header. In the dying minutes, Spain pressed for goals and Azpilicueta found the net, but other than an attempt on the post, Oranje was clear.

Cor Pot praised the team’s discipline. “Spain is actually better than us from a technical perspective but our mental attitude and organisation got the better of them.”

The team manager was particularly impressed with Bruma. “He defended tremendously. He trains at top level with Chelsea and you can tell. He hardly makes any mistakes. He’s got personality, he can build up and will always push up. He has everything a player needs to become a great defender. Wijnaldum was unstoppable on the right wing. It’s great to have two of those gems in the team.”

Foppe de Haan’s successor can present perfect stats. 15 points from 5 qualification games and a goal score 12-1. “Are we on the throne now? Well, I remember Foppe scoring 15 from 5 and not managing to qualify, so it doesn’t say everything yet. We will probably reach the status of “best number two’s” but we definitely will intend to win this group.”

@alaa ,
we have a problem in finishing the game . Huntelaar was lost today . Ruud is a must in the squad now . Persie was injured . We need a third striker for such circumstances . Volvoswinkel or jermain lens may be good solutions . Van der vaart must leave madrid in the winter . This guy will help us a lot in the world cup . He was the man of the match today .

According to the guardian writer: ‘A long ball was delivered into the Ireland penalty area, Hewnry was offside, controlled it with his hand … twice … flicked the ball across the face of goal and Gallas headed home. That’s a travesty, there.’

I am very surprised Henry did not own up…such a clear hand ball TWICE to control it ….disgusting. Time again to discuss TV replay like Rugby, tennis and cricket.

yea .. Shame. Poor Ireland..

mohammed i really do not see what game u have been watching.. vbommel and de jong are certainly not the players to get rid of.
As soon as Gio left the pitch, we became a threat on the left side with Braafheid and Babel.

Babel still played like crap though, slow in his final touch, indecisive, and no vision whatsoever.
But Braafheid should defintely start playing instead of Gio. No doubts about it.
Huntelaar had one good shot, but for the rest he was no where to be seen.
Kuyt i must admit is even worse than Huntelaar as striker at the moment.
vdvaart was sloppy and unimaginative as well. Allefay as well.

If BvM cant see that, hes an ass imo.

well we didnt play with our big guns..

remember, we have van persie, robben , sneijder, van nistelrooy, de zeeuw all missing.
and we were playing with 10 men when gio was on :P

so u know it is obviously difficult to score in these circumstances.

first half, 45 minutes we don’t shoot at the goal at all (real shots i mean). why? who are we playing against? it is not even brasil or spain!

the level of the orange is frustrating, thats all what i can say!

Rami agree with your summation….do you think most players just didnt want to get injured also ? Furthermore Paraguay continuously had 8 men behind the ball ???

paraguay was playing very defensive.. but they were very dangerous as well. a few times they almost scored due to Heitinga’s inconsistency.
but yea very defensive display form paraguay… but remember its that same team that lost to QATAR 2-0 a few days ago.

So…

it was a boring game, but in the same time i followed several games. intriguing that we can’t score but at least we don’t concede. more than evident that our defence with the holding midfielders is really good (except gio) but we lack creativity… hopefully with sneijder, robben and van persie it will be different. right now oranje play like italy – efficacity without creativity. since the european championship i have not seen too many oranje game when i enjoyed the quality of play. on the other hand results come. maybe this is the way to win world cups. but as a fanatic of pure football i consider that our new style is not too flamboyant. but it was a pointless friendly after all.

STARTING LINEUP

Steks .. 6.5 .. good overall, good saves, better distribution than last time

VdWiel .. 5 .. he has a good qualities, but obviously is inexperienced. major howler today, should improve his crossing to make it more consistent

Heitinga .. 6 .. inconsistent defending but not too shabby overall

Mathijsen .. 6.5 .. more consistent defending, stable, fights well, recovers well when he makes mistakes

Gio .. 4 .. likes to backpass a lot.. was not able to provide Elia with any attacking impetus in the first half. should retire today before tomorrow.

De Jong .. 6 .. not one of his best days. but still is very dynamic and strong defensively

Van Bommel .. 6.5 .. much better today than last time, looked strong and reliable.. better passing as well

Elia .. 6.5 .. very able young man, very fast.. cannot shine obviously when his almost alone going forward

VdVaart .. 6 .. not bad, but also not sharp.. i actually felt he was sloppy and lacked vision. a few of his ball controls are terrible.

Allefay .. 6 .. not much to highlight about his performance, i felt he was uninvolved most of the time, does not combine well with others, and when he has the ball , he usually loses it

Kuyt .. 5.5 .. works hard , but hes just not a good striker

SUBS:

Braafheid .. 7 .. not a fantastic performance, but a very noticeable improvement to Gio’s.. immediately allowed the team to be dangerous on the left side, he was very involved both in attack and defense. like VdWiel needs more experience

Engelaar .. 5.5 .. he was a step backwards from De Jong.. Slow

Babel .. 6 .. he got himself in good positions but just tends to get lost so easily, lacks vision and composure, final ball always horrible.

Brama .. 6 .. good defensively, but lacked confidence in offense

Huntelaar .. 6 .. better than Kuyt, but not good enough. was almost inexistent until his final strike.

I thought Braafheid was awful…the only time he managed to hold on to the ball was when he was taking a throw-in…I was really disappointed with him tonight.
