Ibra versus San Marco
When Marco van Basten at long last made his way back into football, it was only logical that he’d start his new career at Ajax. And boy did they have a job for him. They had this young, dumb and full of cum stud from Sweden playing for them. He made the fans, the coaching staff and the board crazy…sometimes with great actions, mostly with stupid, egotistical, blind ideas… He was extremely talented. Everyone knew. But also difficult. The coaches drooled over what he did at training, the fans looked on in horror if he did something foolish during the matches.
Maybe Marco could give the gifted rebel some individual time and attention.
Years later, Zlatan (as we called him) Ibrahimovic is the big man at Inter Milan. San Marco is the fallen angel of Oranje.
In Italy, football experts and fans are in agreement. Zlatan is a very gifted player. And maybe he isn’t as yet, but then he certainly will be. He helped Juve win the scudetti, was a majoor shareholder in Inter’s title last season and performed magic on the pitch. The sleazy elbow hits, the yelling and screaming, pulling shirts and other shenanigans were forgotten. In Ibra’s tall body lives a ballerina, romancing the ball. Bringing the tifosi in ecstasy.
And forgiveness is easily given in that case. Because all his goals are also beauties. The Gazetta Del Sport dares to compare the apprentice with the master. Is Zlatan as good as San Marco?

53% think he’ll never be as good as Marco di Basti, 23,8% think he is already as good and 20.8% think he will even get better.
Ibra doesn’t care about it. He doesn’t believe in percentages, he believes in winning prizes. And he does like to compare himself with Marco, his hero.
Recently, Roberto Mancini - his Inter coach - put Zlatan down in a chair in front of a telly. Mancini pressed “play” and instructed Ibra to watch the screen. Highlights of Van Basten’s actions. Ninety minutes long. Goals, dribbles, tricks, bicycle kicks and passing shuffles. “Watch and learn…here’s the master,” Mancini told him. Ibrahimovic: “That was magic. Watching the best striker ever, together with Mancini, who wasn’t shabby either.”

I think they are somewhat different players. Ibra is more of a target and van Basten more of a pure striker.
