I truly hope he does well, he is a nice bloke…

Marco van Basten gave a press conference on his selecting of Clarence Seedorf.

“When we started, we wanted a fresh team. Without the excess baggage of past power-struggles. I wanted 2 creative midfielders in my group and Rafael vd Vaart and Wesley Sneijder fitted the bill.” When asked why he didn’t call upon Clarence when one or both of these players were injured, the Dutch manager replied: “We tried some up and coming talents for that role. Maduro, Hoffs, Janssen…. And we aren’t too pleased with their development, which is why now we selected Clarence. We thought of selecting him earlier bnt decided against it then.”

“But, he is a very nice and polite chap. I really like he does well against England, for him and for us.”

With van Persie on new fatherhood duties Marco van Basten will try Rafael van der Vaart on the right wing, in a free role. We can expect Raf circling around our center striker and try to perform his magic in the box. Clarence will therefore start as the creative midfielder on midfield.

When asked about his relationship with van Basten, Seedorf answered jokingly: “Our relationship has offically only begun today.”

finally, Basten has turned towards reality.
So welcoming to see him accept the fact to strengthen mid-field. With Vaart, Kuyt and Robben all strikers capable of joining mid-field would help experienced Seedorf and party reclaiming domainancy.
More significantly, Vaart on the right wing, more likely to have free position, indicates a shift from strickly sticking to traditional 433.
Very interesting to watch how Basten would manipulate the built up from defending 4.
Traditionally we used to change into 3-1 for built up.
With Boularouz and Ooijer, both can shift positions, we can expect more flexibility from defence4.

Damnnn, its been along time since ive been on this site. I thought this was a world cup blog, not an oranje fan site. But anyways, its cool that you guys still do this. Im Glad Marco finally realizes that midfield needs more control and more leadership. We have the attacking power, even if van the man isnt a striker for oranje, we still have good forwards. The problem is midfield, especially now cocu is gone. If i was Marco, i would take davids into the squad to see how they perform. Because in my personal experience, we definately do not have the experience and quality in midfield.

I am very excited about this match, cause if Seedorf does well, then this could be a sign for could things to come for holland; who knows, may be we’ll see other “old guards” coming back for oranje to fill the gaps that we have now.

Let’s keep our fingures crossed and pray for the best to happen.

i think this confirms what has been said here that van Basten selects those nice and polite to him!!

I think van Basten is a good tactician who has courage to take risk, but in human relation he cannot be compared to Guus Hiddink or Rikaard… he has a lot to improve in this field of his jod, cause we all saw his static reaction in the portugal match…

Hope Seedorf does a great match!

ok were 1-0 down.

Seedorf has been very good. Very very good; gave away possession a few times, but even the commentators agreed he has been magnificent so far. Hope 2nd half he’ll play even better.

Tonite we dont have chaos up midfield, we have however all sorts of chaos in the back.. Too many mistakes, boulahrouz and ooijer are disastrous.. We’re lucky, we only conceded one so far.

I hope we nail a 1-1 draw. I really do. Just the DRAW.

Later.

dont agree with u rami saying that seedorf was excellent! he was ok, robben and van der vaart both played well but the rest were poor! dont kno why basten still puts boularouz in right back wen he is better than both players at centre back!

HOURRAYYYYY

hehe..
Well like i hoped, 1-1. I think we deserved it, somehow unconvincingly, but still..

So much to say folks about tonite’s performance.
Some of our players were spot on, just terrific!! Emanuelson, schaars, even landzaat all played really well. Robben, Kuyt and vdv also performed well in my opinion, not as much as the latter though, but we have to give credit to richards and the rest of the english defence, who really made it difficult and extremely tough.
However, my player of the night is by far Mr. ‘Great Comeback’ Clarence Seedorf. WOW, in so many ways. First to get used to the 4-3-3 formation again and with players he’s probably never played with before this week, and to do what he just did tonite just blows me away.
For all of you old timers here on this blog site, you should remember not long ago, I said in one of the threads after watching seedorf play with Milan in one recent champions league match that he defintely would deserve a no.10 jersey for Oranje in my books. Hehe, many of you objected (micha i recall the most), well damn it did he just prove you wrong or what?!
Even if Ooijer, then mathijsen wore the captain armband, in reality, and obvious to any one watching tonight, that Seedorf was the true master and indirect captain tonite, holding every thing together, calmly, responsibly, bringing heaps and heaps of experience, strength and coordination to our side.
We definitely cannot do without him from now on. MVB please, not while he continues to perform like this.

Now to the bad side, unfortunately!!
Our defence tonite can be described as a quality-less disastrous looking bunch who neither stand convincingly nor know how to play a pass under fire.. In other words, they looked terrfied and very very shaky.
Boulahrouz in the first half embodied all of that, although his second period before hobbling off was of much improvement.
Ooijer; i’m not quire sure at all why the hell he is captain. He played a series of wrong passes tonite, and was anything but sure of himself.
For a while there, i was excluding mathijsen from this black list, that was until rooney started outclassing and outplaying him over and over again.
I was terrified when Shaun-philips came on in the second half, but Emanuelson was always there to cover him. Also i noticed very few ppl dribbling passed him all night; so again really good game by him.

Well thats about it for now, theres still so much to say, but i’ll leave it for later. I have a feeling this thread is gonna continue for a while. hehe that would really please jan, wouldnt it.
Oranje loving Folks, your thoughs, comments and emotions.
Pour them to us…

Seedorf did give away possesion a few times yes but with what little he had to work with i think he did well, defiantly did enough to secure himself a place in the starting eleven. Landzaat did well I agree especially defensively. Boula played a solid second half. mathijsen did well distributing the ball up feild from the back but defensively he just isn’t world class. Ooijer shouldn’t be in the squard.

Happy with the 1-1 result but if i could sum up the games in words for those who didnt see it, it was like, Holland could control things in the midfeild therefore leading up to opportunities upfront but we’re unable to deliever the final blow, but on the downside, almost everytime england gained the ball in hollands half, they looked like scoring.
