Huntelaar: You can’t be too ambitious…

June 9th, 2009 | By: Jan | 6 Comments »

The new goal for the WC2010, declared by the KNVB, to reach the semis at that tournament and the EC two years later, is not too ambitious, according to Klaas Jan Huntelaar. “If we’re able to play like a team and if all involved can handle disappointment and if we have a bit of luck, we can make it to the top.”

“It will be crucial to win bad games too. When we came out of the group on last year’s EC, we received many compliments but then we play one lesser game and it’s over,” says The Hunter.

Bert van Marwijk wasn’t annoyed with the new objectives.: “I always said than when you participate, you gotta reach for the highest.”

Although Oranje has the ticket to South Africa in the pocket, Huntelaar wants to keep the pressure up. “For a team and for a striker it’s important to play often and win. The more I score, the better my confidence will be for the WC. I will approach Norway exactly as I would the finals of the WC.”

Huntelaar isn’t afraid of Van Nistelrooy’s potential come back. “That’s not in my mind right now. I do have an opinion about it, but that’s not relevant now. I can only talk for myself and I would want to have experienced the whole trajectory. But when Ruud comes along, I don’t see a problem. I haven’t discussed this with him yet. I focus on me. I know what I can and can not do and I want to talk with my feet. The team manager will then have to make the decisions.”

Well said Tiju. I think that after the World Cup of 2006 and Euro 2008 this group of players have matured a lot. The game against Russia has been a lesson for the squad because they thought they were kings of the World after beating Italy and France and then suddenly a less powerful Russia outplayed the Dutch.

That game has been an example for this group of what can happen if you lose concentration and relax yourself. Many have said that Holland´s qualification group was not competitive at all but look at other teams like Portugal that are struggling to win against teams like Albania. Nowadays to win as visitor is very difficult and if we remember Holland has had a lot of trouble winning against not so powerful teams away from Holland. In the past we have lost and tied qualification games away from Holland against Scotland,Norway, Belarus, Macedonia, Ireland… Now we have played some of those teams and we have won away and that is remarkable because although Norway and Scotland don´t have the best period of their football history they are very difficult to beat at home and Holland won at Norway and will win in Scotland. But it is better that everybody says that Holland group was easy so the team will not be so pressured, the key point for Oranje is that the players and coach believe that they can win and that they have faith as a collective. Spain showed in the EC how important team work is and if Holland understands that, the team can have big chances in 2010.

Not much news from Norway papers ahead of the game. Nobody seems to care anymore. Gas is out of the balloon and people have to come to grips with the fact we are in an extreme downturn regd football at the moment.

70% of the people thinks that Oranje will win by 2 goals or more. John Carew will be the captain for the game (as Hangeland is suspended) and everyone expects it to be yet another very long evening in front of the television.

Guys:)

I want to be very objective tonight and put aside my blind love for the oranje. I’ve been a passionate fan for this orange team since 1988 but tonight I wanna analyze the EC 2008 games with you to show you that there is a horrible defect in our back line.

guys first game italy, Do you remember how many opprtunities toni wwasted infront of van der sar?? 4 or 5 easy ones, he was very unlucky and bad infront of the goal and that saved our lives, then when we were leading 2-0 pirlo had a scary free kick but there was someone between the bars called van der sar who made a miracle and saved that ball and from that ball we counterattacked and scored the third goal, if it was anyother goalie but van der sar that would’ve been 2-1 instead of 3-0 , and after the 2-1 Italy mighy have believed more in scoring the tie. you would tell me this is part of the game, I agree but van der sar did some crazy saves.

then the france game, france dominated in the first twenty minutes and they were about to score twice but also van der sar was there for some miraculous saves. then we scored with kuyt and that gave us confidence.

the one thing i wanna say is dont get me wrong, I loved those two games and I was the happiest person on earth but the team was vulnerable in the back, against romania was a useless game doesn’t count and I am not gonna talk about.
but, after that we got to russia, with russia we had a couple of chances from free kicks where van nistelrooy missed easily, and because we were not able to score early as we did with italy and france we lost it. so it was not an “off” game as i saw you writing for the last year maybe:), with all due respect to your opinions it was no an “off” game, bu it was a game that showed if we dont score early our team is very vulnerable. if our team takes a goal first will suffer forever, and in thw world cup might see a disaster happen with a good team like brazil or spain. they might be able to humiliate us because of our bad back line and because there is no more van der sar. this guy saved us many times and his presence and saves hid the defects of our back line sometimes.
sooooo, as long as we have this back line I will be very worried, we have huge talents upfront, but in the back we lack:)

A person’s credit score is of vital importance in this day and age. It makes more difference than just about anything else, and according to Suze Orman; Hitler would be redeemable if his FICO score was high enough. However, some things don’t affect your credit score as much as others. For instance, your credit score and credit ratings are impacted by credit cards and any personal loan from a bank, and especially if any late fees are assessed. However, payday lenders don’t check your credit if you apply for any payday loans. Alternative short term financing doesn’t rely on credit scores for eligibility, so keep it in mind that your credit score doesn’t come into play with cash advances.

excellent alaa, I agree with…..well basicly EVERYTHING you just said. Been trying to point out the same thing myself on this blog.

All we can do is hope that Stekelenburg becomes as good as vd Sar or close enough, that Ooijer gets replaced by a younger, faster player with a similar height (Bouhlarouz comes to mind), and that Heitinga has learned enough from his Atletico Madrid experience to step up his game compared to 2008.

I wouldn’t be too fast to give up on vBronckhorst (but by all means, DO try a new build-up defender). Mathijssen has been playing fantastic lately, both defensively, build-up, and even scoring. It looks however that vBommel has things much more under control defensively then Engelaar or (who played against Italy?). But looks can be deceiving, especially if you haven’t faced the big boys yet.
