Hot: Chelsea wants Ten Cate!

October 3rd, 2007 | By: Jan | 4 Comments »

Ajax coach and former Barca assistant coach Henk ten Cate apparently is topping the wish list at Chelsea. Chelsea management had a first meeting with Henkie in London last week at Arnesen’s house, Chelsea’s technical director. Ten Cate’s manager is in negotiations at the moment and every body expects that both parties will come to an agreement soon.

Ten Cate has a contract at Ajax till summer 2008. The idea is to copy the ManUnited structure, where Fergusan is coach/manager and Querioz is the field trainer. At Chelsea, Grant will be manager and Ten Cate is supposed to be the field trainer, like he worked with Rijkaard at Barca. The Blues picked Ten Cate because of this Barca background and his offensive football vision.

Jan, did you arrange for the significant change in the format of this blog? I do like the new format, but you gave no warning or explanation, so a nice surprise intended?

As to ten Cate, would he be satisfied with a trainer-only role, leaving the “big” decisions to someone else? Would this not be somewhat of a step backwards for him?

Goose, thanks for the “Van” team–it was great. And, did you see the Real Madrid match today, and the two goals scored by van Nistelrooij? Now, there’s a great Van, if I do say so myself! HUP HOLLAND!

Hi Bobster, I was as surprised as you. Although the blog-gods did send me an email about it but I saw it after I saw the changes in the blog. So, a surprise for me, but entirely my own fault.

The Ten Cate matter. I think the current situation at Ajax (apparently Ten Cate has a troubled relationship with Van Geel) and the fact that his contract won’t be renewed probably helps. Ten Cate is a bit of an ego tripper and being able to say he worked at Barca, Ajax and Chelsea will influence his decision too. And the money at Chelsea is good too I s’pose. And, like Jol at the Spurs, Henkie might think he will be able to push Grant out at Chelsea. Oh, I am not saying Jol this that to the coach at Tottenham on purpose, by the way…

hehe goose this one was the typical real game i love: ruud scores all their goals but they don’t win:-) ruud was the man of the match. i watched lazio-real on the net (p2p,sopcast) and valencia-chelsea on the television. to be honest, this latter was so boring that i fall asleep for 10-15 minutes. after i only watched lazio-real. bad news that clarence’s milan lost in the last minutes in glasgow. there is something wrong with milan – the problem might be that carlo doesn’t take any risk. clarence was replaced in the 55th minute by gurcouff. and pool lost at anfield against bolo zenden’s marseille. it was a crazy cl night.

this henk ten cate news is really surprising.
