Hi Goose, who was that guy that JC sent away? It's tough yeah... But JC was a very tough cookie. Very direct. Everything for the results.

I understand your Ten Cate position very good. He "acts" the cool coach. The way he talks, like Leo Beenhakker, although Don Leo is funny and can make fun of himself. Ten Cate takes himself very seriously. It's scary how most players who worked with him call him the "biggest asshole they ever trained under, but also one of the best coaches"... But yeah, the vibe he sends out is negative.

Willem lived in my village (Hendrik Ido Ambacht) and I was the leader (as they called it then) for the team at ASWH where Gert, his son, played in. Willem played tennis at my tennis club and I played football on the field next to Willem's house, with Gert and many other guys from the neighborhood. Sometimes Willem and Wim Jansen came and hung out with us and played along with us. Willem was always on goal (he was a fab goalie) and he would shoot his goal kicks in the upper corner of the other goal :-). A very nice guy, generous (with tickets) and funny. But also tough as nails when you played him. Didn't matter what you played, he always wanted to win.
His son Gert was very talented as well (played for Feyenoord and FC Utrecht) but in those days overweight and had a bad temper. Still, if we went out to play away games with the club, most guys from the opponent would seek him out and try to injure him.

So, now you know :-)

its something personal Caleb.. well i also think hes a lousy headcoach..think he was ok as an assistant
but more then that i hate who he is as a person (or what i get to see ofcourse cause i dont know him personally).. just dont like his voice, dont like the way he talks (a'dam accent) dont like the way he looks... dont really know why...we all have players/managers whom we really hate.. i remember a post from Jan on this some months ago..saw some great responces there

coincedence; talked with a new sports teacher at my school and he told me he trained with Feyenoord the year Cruijff was there... after about 2 days of training he heard Cruijff say about him: " this guy is no use to us" and he left after 2 weeks of training..he told me it took him quit some years to get over that..but still; he trained with Cruijff and Gullit...if not anything it still is a great story!

and yes; internet makes it much more easy to keep in tough with games, goals etc.. youtube is great too..

Well, it's Nijnatten from the AD.

I think he meant to say that at least Ten Cate has the guts to tell the press Ajax plays lousy and got a lucky victory. Where as Van Basten doesn't and tries to tell the press Oranje played strong and deserved to win. Nijnatten actually says in the column that he thinks Ten Cate wouldn't be a good coach for Oranje :-).
