Glenn Loovens makes debut in Oranje selection

Bert van Marwijk invited Glenn Loovens in the Oranje selection for the friendly against Japan and the WC qualification game against Scotland. The 25 year old Celtic defender has never before played for the Dutch team, although he did play for Young Oranje teams when a youth player at Feyenoord.
Skipper Gio van Bronckhorst, absent against England due to injury, returns to the group. This time around, Dirk Marcellis and Ryan Babel have lost their spot. They were part of the pre-selection. Mark van Bommel is not present due to a toe-injury. Coming Tuesday, the selection will meet in Noordwijk.
On September 5, Holland plays Japan in Enschede. Four days later, the qualification game in Glasgow awaits, although Oranje has already qualified.

I hope BvM uses the Japan game to experiment with the back 4:
VderW—-Loovens—-Mathijsen—-Braafheid
The selection of Loovens is the beginning of the end for Ooijer.

Deserved call up for Loovens, he’s made a vast improvement in the past couple seasons. I think he’s good enough to challenge Ooijer. His quickness and heading are instant upgrade compared to Ooijer, but his build-up and passing need quite a bit of work. Keep a close look on Maduro, he is worth to consider also. Strong finish with Valencia last season, and solid start so far in pre-season. I thought the Oranje squad is shaping nicely coming into the WC2010. Holes start to be filled in, with Stekelenburg claiming his spot at Ajax, Loovens and Maduro playing regularly, and Braafheid earning praise in Munich. Hopefully Huntelaar can make a speeding adjustment in Milan and De Jong can hold his spot in star-studded Man City.

well, guys, i have been a great admirer of dutch football, probably the only weak aspect in your national team at present is probably your defence..The attack is second to none, i would say that it is probably better than even that of Spain..

Elia on the right flank, and Robben on the left. This time, play 4-3-3.

I think we make one too many negative comments about ooijer!!!
Ooijer !!! in case u check this wonderful blog regularly, i think we all appreciate everything you’ve done.. and surely not too long from now, we’d be cheering and appreciating you in discussions, as long as its during your post-retirement stage in life.
