Fred Rutten says no to PSV
PSV had three coaches on the short list. Martin Jol said no last week. Second choice and former PSV assistant coach Fred Rutten said no yesterday. PSV manager Jan Reker is still confident PSV will have a new coach by next week. Who the number 3 candidate is, is the question. Huub Stevens already said he wouldn’t leave HSV Hamburg for PSV.
Rutten: “Of course I am flattered by PSV’s question. I would love to work there as head coach one day. I love the club and had a great time there. But, I combine two jobs here at FC Twente. We are only months into the new season, I don’t feel I can go now. Timing is wrong. I just signed for three years, I enjoy working with my players, the fans are happy. I just can’t leave. It would be wrong. So, I will honor my contract.”
What?? Rutten…contracts aren’t there to be honored? You’re from a dying race my friend. I applaude you.
Foppe would be an excellent choice. Arie Haan in my book has failed as a coach, everywhere he went. Adriaanse doesn’t have the fit with PSV’s housestyle of playing I think. And furthermore, Adriaanse and Reker is like water and fire. Adriaanse once made the infamous Marco van Basten comment: a good horse isn’t necessarely a good jockey. Reker – in his role as union leader for coaches – chastised him for it.
I’d say: Ron Jans!

PSV is in talks with Huub Stevens for next season. The HSV coach’ contract in Germany will expire next summer. As ad interim coach, the name of the – recently retired – Sef Vergoosen is mentioned.

Nicely done, tough for PSV though.
Foppe de Haan maybe? Arie Haan? Adriaanse?
