Flags

June 15th, 2006 | By: Mike | 17 Comments »

I’ve seen a lot of these car flags. Around here I see a lot of England and Portugal flags with Poland and Italy being popular as well. Are these a North American thing or maybe just Canada? I’m going out to buy a Dutch one tomorrow hopefully so I can fully represent the Dutch.

On an unrelated note, the store I checked in on this afternoon had coffee mugs with players from the late nineties and the KNVB insignia. It’s pretty sharp! I have to start drinking coffee now.

A little store called “Soccer World” in Hamilton, ON. For those of you in the Hamilton area you should absolutely check it out. It’s a locally owned little store that has EVERYTHING.

That’s where I got the mug. It was a home-made type of deal. Classy though.

On the mug there are little pictures of Overmars, Stam, Kluivert, Davids, de Boer and Reiziger(I think; can’t really make it out).

Man, I really gotta find a netherlands flag too. I was actually thinking about that the other day. I now have Holland home (#11 Robben), Holland away (#9 V.Nistelrooy) (both fakes off eBay), a base-ball cap with the old KNVB logo, Netherlands written on it and #14 on the side, a Nike shirt with the new KNVB Lion in big and a small Swoosh at the bottom. I’m already thinking about buying the Nike “Netherlands” ball and mini-ball, and now I need to find a flag. If they get far, I might buy some face paint if my friends come over.
I have a question, anyone know of a big store that sells national flags?
Oh and when I get a bit more stuff, I’ll take a pic of it all and post it here.

Hello. Does anyone know where in the Hamilton (or Toronto) area Dutch soccer fans go to watch Holland play? Heck you can go to TO and there are entire neighbourhoods for Italy, Portugal, Poland and Greece but i dont know of even 1 pub to watch Holland play with other supporters.
@mike thanks for the tip. there is also a store in the Woolco Mall called ‘Dutch Toko’ that sells Jerseys etc.

hope the link works..as promised
here the lyrics in dutch/english

Samen zijn we sterk
Eendracht maakt machtig
Hoe een klein land groot kan zijn
Is dat niet prachtig

Nederland Oh Nederland
Jij bent een kampioen
Wij houden van Oranje
Om zijn daden en zijn doen

Straks als het rood wit blauw
Voor ons wordt gehesen
Dan zijn wij een groot gezin
Met goud zijn wij geprezen

Nederland Oh Nederland
Jij bent een kampioen
Wij houden van Oranje
Om zijn daden en zijn doen

Van de tribunes
Klinkt het Wilhelmus
Nu nog mooier dan voorheen
Ach wie laat geen tranen

Nederland Oh Nederland
Jij bent een kampioen
Wij houden van Oranje
Om zijn daden en zijn doen

Wij houden van Oranje
‘t Is de ware kampioen

Together we are strong
Ubity makes powerful
How a small country can be big
Isn’t it beautiful

Holland,oh Holland
You are the champion
We love Oranje
cause of their deeds (chorus x3)

Later, when the red white and blue
is being rased for us
than we’ll be one family
we’ll be praised with gold

From the stands
you can here the ‘Wilhelmus
Now even more beautiful than before
Oh, who doens’t shad a tear

We love Oranje
There the true champion

The Dutch Toko! I go there all the time. I never would have thought that there would be anyone reading this thing-a-ma-bob who would go the store. That’s awesome.

In Toronto for Euro 2004 we all got together at The Fox & Fiddle at 09 John Street, just north of the Sky Dome. CTV even taped us on the sports that night during the Sweden game.
Previous to that we got together at Hemmingways on Cumberland just north west of Yonge & Bloor
