First choice experimentations

May 25th, 2006 | By: Mike | 9 Comments »

Reader Daniel threw this on as a comment but I think its worthy of a post so that noone will miss it. I’m assuming that the “NOS” is the Netherlands official site? If its not let me know. Great work by all the readers. Feels kinda like a family….*sniff*

Here’s a bit of a quote from the NOS, talking about yesterdays training program:

On the way to the practise duel with Camaroon there were several training matches on the program. Obvious was the preference in the formation of Andre Ooijer over the central defender Khalid Boulahrouz.

As Jaliens and Van Bronckhorst were not present, Jan Kromkamp and Tim de Cler were the wing defenders. Joris Mathijsen finished the defensive line.

Arjen Robben, Ruud van Nistelrooij en Dirk Kuijt formed the offense (hardly surprising.) . Rafael van der Vaart, Phillip Cocu and Mark van Bommel (!) were the mid fielders. In the evening Maduro replaced the missing van der Vaart that gave his ankle a bit of rest. Obviously Edwin van der Sar defended the goal.

“I have a base formation sitting in my head”, said van Basten Monday after the first training in Lausanne. “But I expect that in the coming weeks some things will change.”

“In the three upcoming practise matches I will start with my base eleven, but everyone will get a chance to play.”

Interesting about Ooijer and van Bommel getting very serious looks in to the starting eleven. Great stuff!
UPDATE: I just found an article that has the story. It says nothing new but is a good reference.

Yeah, the N.O.S. stands for Nederlands Omroep Stichting Or Dutch Broadcasting Organization.

They put together the Studio Sport program which has a lot of good world cup coverage:

It’s all in dutch of course, but there is some nice day to day video footage of the training camp in Switzerland.

Hey, this is fresh off the NOS presses. Very Interesting:

Van Persie trains in the Starting XI

Robin van Persie got preference over Dirk Kuyt in the practise game of today. The Arsenal player was on the right wing in an 11 vs 11 game.

(This isn’t always indicitive of van Basten’s plans but is telling sometimes.)

Starting XI:

vd Sar, Krompkamp, Ooijer, Mathijsen, v. Bronkhorst, v. Bommel, Cocu, vd Vaart, v Persie, v Nistelrooij, Robben

@alaa
I Totally agree. I really hate seeing that “The best team to have never won the World Cup” nickname..

Ow, well. It will make that victory that much sweeter, when it does come.

It might be another 50 yrs… But it will happen. :)

comin from an arsenal and dutch fan i would say that kuyt is a much better option than van persie! van persie is very inconsistent even though he does have a lot of talent he is not a regular goalscorer unlike kuyt. also why isnt boularouz being picked hes a great defender and extremly composed! im not sure bout ooijer he usually plays right back not center back!
