Feyenoord wants Bert van Marwijk

June 3rd, 2007 | By: Jan | 6 Comments »

Feyenoord has accepted Co Adriaanse’s “no” and has set their sight on Bert van Marwijk to return to the Rotterdam club. The former Borussia Dortmund coach, who is currently on a holiday in France, has had his first meeting with the Feyenoord management and will continue his negotiations over the phone. Van Marwijk’s most important condition is clarity on the fact that he will need funds to sign new players. If he can’t, he’ll probably say no.

Van Marwijk won the UEFA Cup with Feyenoord in 2002 and recently stated he either wanted to work in the Bundesliga (again) or with a Dutch top club. At first it seemed Wolfsburg wanted the former international (1 cap) but they chose Felix Magath. Then, PSV seemed to want to sign Mark van Bommel’s father-in-law but they decided to stick with Ronald Koeman. With most Bundesliga clubs unavailable, van Marwijk seems interested to work for his former employer again.

Feyenoord has competition from 2 Turkish clubs and 1 Greek club…

I am a Marwijk fan too, but I think it hasn’t work out that well in the past with other coaches… you know, going back to their “old” club… Too many things get in the way. Expectations, memories… I don’t know. Van Gaal at Barca, Hiddink at PSV, Sacci at AC Milan, Capello at Real…

Err… its not like Hiddink failed at PSV when he returned.

Personally I think that the right trainer might already be at Feyenoord; Pierre van Hooijdonk.

interesting statement Lerkot, dont you think even club managers need some sort of training before they get to work??
would be interesting though, im sure that if that would happen certain young players would want to leave the club (Guzman etc), heared Pierre on tv the other day and he said he couldnt believe the mentality of certain (young) players….Pierre has always been a winner, maybe not a bad idea
btw: Feyenoord are also still talking to Adriaanse

Thanks G, I know the story… Yeah, De Kromme is not a man to fukc around with :-) . And 99 out of a 100 times, you don’t hear these things, but they do happen a lot. So, I like Willem for being so open and blunt about it.

Just quickly for all: When Willem was coach at Feyenoord, Wim Jansen was techn director. Player Bosz was a friend of Jansen and started this campaign to badmouth Willem v Hanegem, to get him out. Jansen took it to the chairman, who basically put his faith in v Hanegem. And that was the end of Wim Jansen (back then). WIllem later found out that Bosz was the instigator of it all and Willem doesn’t want to go back to Feyenoord as long as Bosz is there (as tecnical manager).
