Feyenoord players forfait bonus payments

The Feyenoord players have said goodbye to their victory bonusses (what’s the correct English term?) to help the financially struggling club.
Since Feyenoord needs to put some serious savings into action to create a balanced budget, the players have all said yes to a new bonus system.
“It’s the players themselves who came up with this,” says Feyenoord general manager Eric Gudde. The players will only get a bonus in the new system if and when they reached one of the objectives for the season: winning the national cup or achieving European football. In the old system, every point the club won was the basis for a bonus amount.
“This gesture shows how committed the players are towards their club,” comments Gudde. Feyenoord needs to do it’s utmost to balance the budged for next season, “but we’ve made tremendous progress” concludes the general manager.
“Some expensive players left and we finetuned several activities within the club. This gesture will have it’s impact as well.”
New signing Sekou Cisse will not put any burden on the payroll. The 3.5 million euros will be financed by external financiers, as will his salaries.
The second season Cisse will play at Feyenoord will be the first the club needs to pay his salaries. In that same year, seven expensive players’ contracts will be finished which means the budget will look much more rosy by then. Cisse signed on for five seasons in Rotterdam, despite lucrative offers from Ajax, PSV and FC Twente.
Cisse needed to take care of personal stuff before he joined the group on training camp. “I’ve never been worried. I shook his hand and knew the deal was done,” comments Mario Been.
Been’s presence at Feyenoord was the clincher for the Ivorian to sign in Rotterdam. His manager: “Sekou is a warm-blooded passionate and sensitive bloke. He can’t work with so-called “cold” types. Mario Been is a warm and human coach, a great communicator and a great motivator. On top of that, Cisse checked Feyenoord out via the Kalou bros which whom he plays for the Ivorian national team and they highly recommended Feyenoord.”
