Feyenoord is shopping around

June 21st, 2007 | By: Jan | 21 Comments »

Bert van Marwijk, Feyenoord’s new coach, is busy shopping. Kevin Hofland is almost signed. Talks are underway with AZ for Danny Koevermans (he wants to leave AZ coz he feels he will need to compete with new signing Ari). Tim De Cler is high on the list. Roy Makaay is in the waiting room, Gio van Bronckhorst is still and option and even Kenneth Perez - who was said to go to PSV - is still in the cards now Ajax is sabotaging his transfer to their biggest competitor. Latest name that circulates in Rotterdam is this blog’s fave player Denny Landzaat…

At least things are happening in Rotterdam again….

I bet van Marwijk is also enjoying the Under 21 games with one Royston Drenthe in a superb role….

@aj: nah, they will need to pay more than that…im sure Feyenoord will do anything to keep him in Rotterdam…Chelsea would be wise to wait another year or so to see how he develops..if they were to pay over 10 mln pound i would take it if i were Feyenoord

I read Feyenord is persuading Gio, Makaay, Landzaat to join the club. If that happens and they keep Drenthe they will have a good team.

I don’t know much about van Marwijk but it seems he is a very good coach.

Goose, it’s true. It’s winter and it’s cooooollldddd (without central heating :-) ).

Aj, thanks for that link. I hope Roy will stay in Holland a bit longer… But if they really pay up, who knows… Feyenoord needs the dough.

BvM is a good coach. He is a feet on the ground type of guy. Very balanced, good communicator, ego-less and a good tactician. With a bigger mouth and ego he would’ve worked at bigger clubs, I s’pose…

Funny, on ad.nl this is confirmed. On the vi.nl site they say Tim is talking to PSV and Feyenoord is too late. On both sites it’s said that the Perez-PSV deal is off. Maybe Feyenoord for Kenneth?

dont think Perez would be popular in Rotterdam (hes popular nowhere), heared he is a bit of an asshole within the team…nobody likes him…dont think he is a Feyenoord player..

i heared deCler from the same source i heared about vanMarwijk..would be a great deal for Feyenoord (esp, since Drenthe is gonna move to midfield)
if they can get Makaay it would give them at least 15-18 goals per season (minimal),

well, hope Feyenoord will do well next year, altough im not a Feyenoord fan by any means we need a strong Feyenoord team in Holland…things are looking better Jan

Yeah. I was thinking… Feyenoord could have a line up like this:

Timmer

Tiendali - Vlaar - Hofland - De Cler

Hoffs De Guzman Bruins Drenthe

Makaay Slory

Not bad….

Jan/Mario - that would be a fun lineup to watch and follow. It’s the same reason I enjoy following Ajax with Heitenga, Emmanuelson, Sneijder, Babel, Hunter and of course, the old classics Davids and Stam.

It´s good to see an American lovind and understanding soccer. I lived there at Iowa for a year and people there didn´t know anything about soccer but I guess things are changing and you cheer for the rigth team man. Hup Holland!

Wow, that’s great. I must say that I am 1) surprised that Roy wants to go to Feyenoord and 2) I’m not sure he is a typical Feyenoord player…

That is funny :-).

No because Feyenoord fans love players who work their arses off. Like Kuyt, Houtman, Heus, Fraser. And Makaay is a bit of lazy striker, if you know what I mean? I really think Makaay would fit PSV. Not that I am unhappy with him in Rotterdam, don’t get me wrong. I wonder why he chose Feyenoord (if he does…).

dont think Drenthe will play in defence…after the ECU21… had the same discussion with some people at work…can deCler play in central defence?? Can Gio play midfield somewhere else than left (same position as Drenthe) or should Drenthe get a more central position at midfield??

but no for sure; if Feyenoord can get a good sum of money for Drenthe (20 mln or so) they should take it..

my source tells me Makaay is still an option but the talks dont go easy, cause he(and his agent) now know for sure he has to leave Bayern they wait for other clubs aswell…

very interesting to see Feyenoord doing so much bussiness!
