Feyenoord in Dutch Cup finals
Feyenoord won easily against NAC Breda in De Kuip, 2-0. The Van Marwijk coached team saw a ferocious NAC trying to put pressure on them and overwhelm them in the first phase, but Feyenoord wasn’t impressed.
Luigi Bruins in particular was a continious threat to NAC who did get the first big opportunity in the game, but Penders hit the ball from a corner high over the bar.
In the second half, it was Makaay’s stand-in Michael Mols who scored the 1-0 after the off-side trap failed and later in the match – after Gio missed a huge opp to score – it was Denny Landzaat who scored a beautiful 2-0 to seal the deal. Feyenoord’s opponent will be either Roda JC or Heracles. That match is played tonight.

Question: Is the KNVB cup a big deal? Does it help in UEFA or Champions league qualification?

It is and it isn’t a big deal. It’s basically the only other prize after the title. So, in that way, it helps the club with their records, status and all. And of course it gives you a starting ticket into the UEFA Cup.
And you get to play the champ for the Super Cup in the start of next season.
It is not a big deal because the KNVB never was able to catapult the cup into a position like the FA Cup. The KNVB has been all over the place policy wise over the last years. Different set-ups every year, questionable draws, different dates for the finals, different venues…etc.
So, winning the cup in Holland is nothing compared to winning the FA cup.
But, it’s a relatively easy prize to win. You only need to win maybe three tough games in a series of 7 (or
and you can call yourself the cup winner.
Typical cup fighters like FC Utrecht and Feyenoord tend to do well in this competition.
So, it doesn’t carry the weight – historically – of the FA Cup it is a major prize in Holland.
