Feyenoord draws against Liverpool 1-1

August 5th, 2007 | By: Jan | 4 Comments »

Porto won the Port of Rotterdam Tournament, beating their Chinese opponent 3-0 but who really cares? The Legion saw their faves play CL finalist Liverpool and Feyenoord did well. Playing in their coach Van Marwijk’s fave starting line-up, although there’s a fair chance Drenthe will move to another club in the next weeks. Van Marwijk: “It’s hard to keep him. He was always seen as one of the building blocks for Feyenoord and the idea was to bring him carefully to the front. But after the U21 tournament every club in Europe went berserk. To be honest, if one of the clubs (Real Madrid or Chelsea) ups their bid we will seriously think about taking the money.”

And it was Drenthe who opened the score against Liverpool after a brilliant attack. Jonathan De Guzman passed superbly to the speedy Slory who hit the post. Drenthe finished off the rebound. Feyenoord played well, but was pretty vulnerable with Hofland being absent (little injury). Van Marwijk would really like to make to more signings to get his team in balance. At the back, there is no real alternative for Vlaar and Hofland and Roy Makaay is the lonesome cowboy up front. Kuyt worked his arse off as usual and hit the crossbar. Steve Gerrard equalized after an assist by Ryan Babel who came on the pitch in the second half. At the end of the match, Luigi Bruins was allowed a penalty kick, but like Roy Makaay earlier, Luigi missed!

The Legion couldn’t care less. They saw a strong and confident Feyenoord and Rotterdam can’t wait for the competition to start!

thought Feyenoord played ok, nothing to get really excited about..only vanBronckhorst played really well
Drenthe played far too nervous, no much spilled energie (im telling you Feyenoord should have taken the money)
its obvious that vanMarwijk is starting to built form the back, actually thought the back was pretty strong altough the built-up part has still a lot of improvement possibilities
Kuyt actually scored (the one where he hit the crossbar) but the linesman missed that the ball was actually behind the goal;line), the penalty that Feyenoord got was a laugh, it hit the Liv. guy on the head!!)
funny to see that Makaay didnt have the guts to take the penalty after missing last game..but why them let the youngest of them all take the penaly..why not Gio or Hofland??

cant wait for competition to start

i though drenthe played very well he is a quick player. how many dutch players did feyernoord field there seemed a lot which is a good thing!
also babel is an awsome player he is very tactically aware of things and is going to be a top player in the future! i wonder if rafa is going to play him at the start of the season!
