Ex-coach Koeman is afraid (and other qoutes)
Here’s a couple of remarkable quotes:
“I heard his manager say that there’s at least 15 big name clubs interested in Royston Drenthe. Then I think, shut up man! This only puts more pressure on Royston. There is only one thing he now needs, and that’s peace and quiet Heis a fantastic fellow. He likes to work, he likes to learn, he listens well, as a coach you can’t ask for more. The only problem is, he is too soft outside of the pitch. On the pitch, he is a fighter, but other than that he needs to learn how to take care of himself. And particularly now, now everyone wants a piece of him… I hope he can say “no”… To be honest, I am a bit afraid of that. Royston needs to stay at Feyenoord a bit longer he needs to keep the media at bay a bit.
– ex Feyenoord coach Erwin Koeman –
“The EC U21 is a great experience for the players, particularly mentally, but the physical pressure is too much. I fear for these youngsters”
- AZ coach Louis van Gaal –
“A fun tournament? Why? I don’t understand it… There was one in 2006 and now again in 2007. Why? It’s the Under 21 EC but 22 year olds may play as well… Huh? And Ron Vlaar, the captain, does all he can to reach Bejing and now we did, he can’t come because he is too old??? Why???”
- Ajax Technical Director Martin van Geel -
“I saw crosses from the wings and players in the box. Isn’t that what we want? Isn’t that more Dutch than Dutch, even?”
- Spurs coach Marin Jol about the discussion on systems in Oranje -
“Foppe said he wanted to discuss the system internally. I most certainly have an opinion but I won’t tell you here and now. We’ll talk about it internally. But it’s good to discuss it. The most important thing is to improve ourselves in any way we can…”
- Oranje team manager Marco van Basten -

Analysis:
Koeman – good advise for Drenthe. Stay in Holland for a while.
Van Gaal – Whatever. They are young.
Van Geel – a couple of good points, but a little bitter wouldn’t you say?
Jol – simplistic but Amen.
Van Basten – we have already discussed this ad nauseam here – just pay attention to this space.
