Eredivisie Action: PSV beats Ajax

August 16th, 2009 | By: Jan | 15 Comments »

In weekend no. 3 one of the first six classics was programmed: PSV-Ajax in Eindhoven. A defeat at home would have resulted in the first crisis for Fred Rutten. In a memorable match, PSV found it’s mojo in the second half and won the game 4-3. Isaksson, the PSV goalie, offered Suarez the first goal in the first minute with a horrible first touch. Man of the Match Dszudszak equalized from a scorching free kick, but a shrewd deep lob from De Zeeuw to Suarez not much later allowed the Uruguayan a free walk to the goal: 1-2. In the second half, PSV played with more passion and venom and took the midfield. Hungarian international Dszudszak took on three Ajax players and offered Bakkal a chance he couldn’t miss from close range in the box:2-2. When Dszudszak can take another free kick at an astute angle, goalie Stekelenburg expects a cross into the box, but the Hungarian hits a perfect “Van Hooijdonk” and hits the ball high into the far corner: 3-2. An Ajax counter later in the second half sets up Suarez for a run into the left channel, for him to pass the ball inside to Emanuelson who hits the ball without warning from outside the box past the near post: 3-3.
But PSV means business and with Koevermans for Toivonen, it gets what it deserves. New signing Manolev is sent into the far corner by Lazovic and his cross is perfectly controlled and volleyd into the net by Otman Bakkal: 4-3. An interesting match, with mistakes, good pass and move play and attacking football. And seven goals…

But Ajax doesn’t seem to be Ajax that much. Suarez was the only real Ajax player on the pitch, maybe with Urby and De Zeeuw… I do feel Jol needs to play with more balls and get Sulejmani and/or Aissati out there for the brilliance. Dennis Rommedahl shouldn’t wear the Ajax jersey in my opinion…

Feyenoord finally won away against Heracles (they lost the four previous away games there) and it was tough win. Tomasson scored the only goal in the second half. Feyenoord leads the tables now, with Twente and Utrecht. N’Kufo scored again for the Tukkers and Utrecht drew against VVV.

AZ scored six in a pretty poor game against RKC.

I have said it before but the referee made 3 very costly and bad decisions among many others. Those 3 resulted in 2 imaginary free kicks for PSV that lead to 2 goals and a non call (glaring…even the Spanish announcers on ESPN Deportes said so) on Suarez – should have been a penalty. PSV used its muscle as it always does with no finesse in its play. Ajax unfortunately played at their level and could not overcome the physical power of PSV. It is clear Ajax needs more technical players who can handle the pressure and move the ball more quickly. I still think Ajax will win the title this year. As for the players who stood out, VD Wiel, Urby, Suarez and De Zeeuw at times, Ooijer, Dzudzak and Affelay for PSV.

Dzudzak was by far the star – It was a real Up and Down Game good to watch.
If you get to see it, see how much more forward vd Wiel goes as a fullback. I prefer that type (Reiziger/Carlos).

Yeah, I thought van der Wiel did well. Was a bit appalled by De Zeeuw though. He can be so good, but he played as a veteran! Ooijer played Suarez smartly, the sly fox, but both him and Salcido looked horrible with Suarez’ second.

But Dszudszak can go far…

Good match on Eindhoven. Both defenses are very, very weak – so the high number of goals.

Well, it appeared to be Suarez day. It was Dzsudzsák’s. Probably one of his best matches wearing the nº 22 shirt from Boeren.

And it was, hell, a weekend of two historical achievements. By scoring the only goal on Twente’s victory, Blaise Nkufo (or N’Kufo? Or Kufo? Just kidding…) reached 104 goals, becoming the topscorer on Tukkers history (he passed Jan Jeuring, who has 103).

And the 6-0 thrash by AZ was the biggest RKC home defeat. How ugly!

So Stekelenburg is still no vdSar? I wonder what the fans (or media) are going to say after we lose 4-3 to Italy or 5-4 to France instead of winning 3-0, or 4-1 coming worldcup. But probably no one will notice a thing cause what’s the chance of meeting France and Italy again, we’ll just get our asses kicked be some other good attacking country with 2-0 or 2-1 (or draw 2-2 just like against England) and nobody will think of blaming Stekelenburg for it, we’ll probably blame it on guys like Heitinga and Mathijssen again. :( Stekelenburg let 2 freekicks past him this game?!

I feel he could have done a bit more on England’s first goal as well, but always hard to say.

Dzsudzsák was the star.
I didn’t like Ooijer.
Emanuelson had a great game and should be called for the national team.

Braafheid will get his chances and I’m sure he’ll take them. Although I am not that concerned about the left back position because we have Gio, Emanuelson. Perhaps Drenthe? and Bouma if he gets his fitness back.

i do like emanuelson but he’s better in attacing than indefending.

Miguel, you made a mistake – you shouldn’t have put together the 98 and the actual team because i’m realising that they were at least twice better. they were stars in their teams not benchwarmers… they were in the best three players of the world, each of them in their positions. now in cannot put any dutch player to the world top 20. they are injury-proned,always (since 2003-2004) “very talented having a brilliant future” and not consistent. our best midfielder, wesley sneijder is miles behind the world’s bests (xavi, iniesta, kaka, fabregas, gerrard, lampard, ribery, etc.) what have they achieved at club and international level? a 1/8 final at the wc and a 1/4 final at the ec,no champion’s league or uefa cup at the club level.
actually our most consistent player is dirk kuyt. i know that everything will be fine and our guys will proove that they are fantastic but the reality is that apart from kuyt, van persie, van bommel, maduro and matthijsen they are sitting on the bench of their clubs. i hope that at least huntelaar will be in milan’s starting eleven. 100% sure that pato will be a starter (the coach is brazilian). hopefully they’ll play with 2 strikers.

i don’t want to be too negative but this is what i feel. hopefully this year will proove that i’m wrong. on the positive side is the fact that these guys play bwetter in oranje than in their clubs and they are a real team.

@Jan ; yes, his the star of De Eredivisie at the moment ; Ajax and PSV are officialy interested in buying him (would be ok for me since VVV is much weaker without him and thats good for Den Haag!)

btw; another defender to watch is Ronnie Stam (Fc Twente) is really playing well at the moment
