But in round one, Robin van Persie scored his first goal as designated penalty-kicker. Arsenal won 1-0, like Chelsea had a close call. Robben and Alex weren’t part of the group, Salomon Kalou played the whole match. Man Utd played 0-0. Liverpool won their first match (Babel came on after 75 minutes) and Martin Jol had his first upset with the Spurs losing. U21 star Daniel de Ridder played against Chelsea for Birmingham but had to be replaced due to an injury.
