EC brings “silver fleet” to Holland

November 20th, 2007 | By: Jan | 13 Comments »

Orange Tiroler suits, wigs with tails, cows and a lot of orange… According to insiders there will be a lot of Orange Heidi’s in June.

Orange fever is starting, what with the Dutch team qualifying for the EC. The corporate world is looking forward to a massive sales of everything orange. Despite the negative feelings surrounding the Oranje matches.

Supermarkets and department stores will be filled with orange stuff. And fans will shell out approximately 200 million euros for flags, t-shirts and caps.

Importers will still have to get the merchandise, though. “Now Oranje has qualified it’s time to get things rolling,” said representatives of Euro Promo Wear. “The phone keeps ringing, since last Saturday. Car vendors, food distributors, washing detergent brands, they all want a piece.”

“Most of the stuff comes from Asia and it could take months before the containers of orange hats arrive so we need to decide now. And we’ll reduce the risk by no longer printing the year on the shirts. If we get ousted quickly in Switzerland, we may still be able to sell the stuff two years later.

’’And the profit margins are also risk-free. We buy stuff for a few dozen cents and sell them for 10 euros. Even if you don’t sell half, you will still have made a fortune.”

Supermarkets are also looking forward to selling orange pudding and cakes.

Typical Dutch… Moaning about the quality of play but raking in the euros at the same time… :-)

Hey Jan,

Did you notice that Holland may be ranked in the first pot… with the following teams: Greece, Austria and Switzerland.

Yes all we have to do is get one in the game against Bulgaria, so do I hear group of death already… ugh

I think holland have a good chance, because they did so good last qualifying, and other teams who did good in the wc qualifying, didnt do too good in this qualifying. Holland are probably gonna be in top pot for 2010 World Cup Qualifying.

You mean get one in the Belarus game, Kyle?

Doesn’t seem to be a bad pot…

Yes I mean one in the Belarus game, sorry I get lost in the B provinces, no pun intended.

I’d rather not be in the group that is suggested, here’s why this is what the expected results would be as of right now, and you’ll see why it’s not great news for Holland cause in the end we all want to win the Euro 2008 even if we don’t agree with Marco Van Basten as coach.

Information found by those tricky Portuguese people.

This is the current results, if the Netherlands lose and Germany wins, Germany would be in the first pot.
Pot 1: Greece, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands
Pot 2: Germany, Croatia, Italy, Czech Republic
Pot 3: England, Portugal, Romania, Sweden
Pot 4: Poland, France, Spain and Turkey

Now the pots can change, but at the moment, you could potentially have a group of Holland, Italy, Portugal and France… which would be the messiest group to ever to be put together for a Euro tournament.

Anyways figured it would further some discussion before hand, just for kicks.

y is france ranked so low, i thot they had a good amount of points in each qualifying. Did you take into effect they played less games? I hate to see now, how a top team like Netherlands can’t even get an easy match in the Euro Cup, because all of these other teams are developping quickly. I liked it better when only Netherlands, England, Germany, Italy, France, and some what the Czech Republic were in contention. Ten years ago ppl wouldve laugh if we said we may lose to poland, or turkey or other teams.

I hope Netherlands aren’t in top pot, it gives us a chance to play austria, who are clearly the weakest team by a landslide in the tournament,

Just remember France’s last 2 Euro’s haven’t been the best of experiences, and they also did lose to the Scot’s twice in qualification, it’s not that big of a stretch for France to be in the 4th pot by the way the system is put together.

well,Kyle – if winning the european championship is not a good result, what do you consider as best experiences? france won the ec in 2000 and the last two ec-s were organized in 2004 and 2000:-)

I did the math kyle and you were right. By my calculations its gonna be:
Pot 1: Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Netherlands
Pot 2: Sweden, Italy, Czech Republic, Croatia
Pot 3: Portugal, Germany, Spain, Romania
Pot 4: Poland, Turkey, Russia, France

I’m hoping we get a group like Russia, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands.

Yes a group of death that would be, even though it would be an entertaining group to watch indeed. Minus Italy playing with 10 guys in the box.

I don’t think Holland would struggle against big teams, as much as they seem to with small clubs. Especially since Robben seems to perform well against top rated teams.
