Dutch update: Huntelaar scores. Again

August 10th, 2006 | By: Jan | 1 Comment »

It looks like it could become a tradition: Ajax ending last in their own pre-season tournament. No one really knows who the points are awarded, but after two matches in the Amsterdam Arena Man United could be crowned as the numero uno. Without Van the Man of course, but with an excelling Edwin van der Sar. Ajax got a well deserved 1-1 draw against Inter Milan (Wesley Sneijder scored a late equalizer), and coach Ten Cate went back to Johan Cruyff’s ways by only using three defenders. One of which being Jaap Stam, new signing for Ajax, and Neanderhaler Man played a truly superb tournament in his new home town.

Edwin van der Sar was the big man in the second match, Ajax against Man United. Or rather substitute Huntelaar against Sar. Huntelaar missed a penalty and a late goal by Giggs secured the win of the tournament for the Mancunians. Man Utd got 10 points (??), Inter Milan finished second, Porto third and Ajax last.

Feyenoord played against Chelsea in their final pre-season blockbuster. Chelsea appeared with all the big guys and new signings, like Sevtsjenko, Kalou, Lampard, Robben and Ballack. Feyenoord played with Dirk Kuyt, who still hasn’t found a new club. Feyenoord only lost with 1-0, thanks to goalies Lodewijks and his replacement Timmer. Drogba scored for Chelsea.

PSV-player and international Andre Ooijer might make a late move to Blackburn Rovers, who are currently negotiating with PSV.

Arsenal qualified for the Champions League by winning in and against Dynamo Zagreb, thanks to man of the match Robin van Persie, who gave the assist for Fabregas’ first goal and who scored the second goal after a breathtaking solo through the Zagreb defense. Final score 3-0.

Shock exit for Adriaanse at FC Porto. The former Ajax and AZ coach resigned yesterday, his Dutch assistents in tow, because of a breech of trust. FC Porto hasn’t confirmed the step by the eccentric coach.

Huntelaar shoots Ajax passed FC Kopenhagen (Denmark) and into the Champions League. Ajax won with 2-1 against the physically strong Danes, Klaas Jan scored both goals. It was a mediocre performance by Ajax, but coach Ten Cate justified that by saying the pitch was dreadful… Well, they replace coaches at Ajax every 1.5 years but the statements stay the same….

Huntelaar is maybe our greatest striker (prospect) ever!!!..

hes maybe not as skilled as Marco was in his days but i think hes a greater goalscorer.. well have so much fun in the future with this guy, im sure

know Huntelaar from the youth competition when he played for PSV, he was the top striker then also, hes such a killer…

what do you guys think: will Marco play Klaas or will he play Ruud??… (btw, im pretty sure Real is NOT a club that suits Ruud)

would be nice if this blog could live on during the qualification for euro ‘08 (and beyond)

greetz
