Dutch Starting Line-up (according to last training)

June 20th, 2006 | By: Jan | 8 Comments »

It seems that sought after Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt will start on the left wing against Argentina, to replace the booked Robben. Robin van Persie will resume his duties on the right flank. At least, that’s the way van Basten trained yesterday (behind closed doors, so how do I know this??).
Van Basten will rest all his booked players (Robben, Heijtinga, Mathijsen, Van Bronckhorst and Van Bommel) bar Boulahrouz.

It seems we’ll play with the following line-up:

Edwin van der Sar

Kew Jaliens
Boulahrouz
Andre Ooijer
Tim de Cler

Phillip Cocu
Wesley Sneijder
Rafael van der Vaart

Robin van Persie
Ruud van Nistelrooy
Dirk Kuyt

Van Basten does need Boulah, because Heijtinga is slightly injured and Van Basten expects to be able to replace Boulah if he runs into another yellow against Argentina.

Cocu is preparing to be fit for his 100-est cap! Van Persie is looking forward to playing with hero Diego Maradona in the stands…

Wasnt it Kuyt on the right and Van Persie moving to the left?

I read Van Basten was so thrilled with v Persie’s performance, that he doesn’t want to switch him. Although Kuyt and Persie will switch during the match, I presume.

I am wondering, who will make the defending with Sneijder and Van der Vaart both playing in midfield together, we both know they have small bodies …
I mean the oranje had some weakness in midfield in thier last match against Ivory coast???

the side backs look a bit insecure, but i dont think it would be a problem cos apart of sorin the left back, there’s non one on the flanks for argentina…

interesting midfield, sneijder and van der vaart, if this works out it would be great!!

for argentina man marking riqueme would perhaps cancel many argentine attacks (as gilberto silva did for arsenal against villareal)
