Dutch selection for Ireland friendly

August 2nd, 2006 | By: Jan | 21 Comments »

Marco van Basten and John van ‘t Schip announced their preliminary selection ( 31 players) for the friendly against Ireland later this month. Surprise surprise, no Edgar Davids, no Phillip Cocu - he retired - but with Edwin van der Sar and with Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Amongst the usual suspects (Robben, van Persie, Sneijder, van der Vaart, van Bronckhorst), the coaches also called upon five new names: Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord), Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Stijn Schaars (AZ Alkmaar), Gijs Luirink (AZ Alkmaar) and Urby Emanuelson (Ajax). Barry Opdam (AZ) and Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord) are back with the group after having been dropped.

August 11 will be date for the definite group selection for the match against Ireland, August 16 in Dublin.

I am expecting big things from the national team by 2008. I am still pretending I am okay with the WC result.

hey Holland is good as long as HUntelaar is in. He is a true goal scorer. In other words i heard rumors that he is leaving Ajax and going to Forntina in Seria A in 2006/07 season. Is this true???

so is van basten still gonna partner sneijder and van der vaart?? van nistelrooy will start? any suggestions? i think maduro is a good replacement for Cocu.

yesterday against manchester Maduro played quite well… just a pity Huntelaar missed his penalty against van der Sar.

i looking at the list and what a team it would be in euro 2008! sneijder, Huntelaar, Babel, Boularouz! i dont know y i’m always optimist!

Sorry I’m this late guys. I wouldn’t be a good blog-manager I guess. I do know Master Bob is trying to get something together, so I’ll await his actions. Thanks for printing that list, NLfanboy! I’m not sure what’s happening with Mike these days, so we’ll see. I do agree that this group looks promissing, albeit a tad young for now, maybe. We’ll see what happens.

@Kervin, did you see Ajax play in Denmark?? It was awfull, theyre just very lucky they have such a great striker, i thought Ajax played ugly and bad (but true, im not an Ajax fan so maybe a bit biased), apart from Huntelaar I would not select a single player from Ajax for Oranje….
