Dress Rehearsal against Australia

June 3rd, 2006 | By: Mike | 7 Comments »

Not only will van Basten field an all English-based attack but the squad will be his preferred line-up for the first official match against Serbia and Montenegro. He said the same thing for the match against Cameroon but with the injury to Rafael van der Vaart that was altered slightly.

In my humble opinion this is the preferred line-up (judging from all that I’ve heard, read and seen):

1. Edwin Van der Sar

12. Jan Kromkamp
4. Joris Mathijsen
13. Andre Ooijer
5. Giovanni Van Bronckhorst

18. Mark Van Bommel
8. Phillip Cocu
20. Wesley Sneijder

17. Robin Van Persie
9. Ruud van Nistelrooy
11. Arjen Robben

I’m not saying I absolutely agree with the choices but that’s the way things go. Denny Landzaat didn’t have a spectacular performance against Mexico so I see van Bommel retaining his place even thought I would prefer a slightly more defensive mind set in the midfield.

I saw only three changes from the most probable 11
Sneijder to Vaart
Ooijer to Bulherouz
Persie to kuyt
Sneijder is perfect replacement to Vaart on injury. I am pleased with his better defensive play.
Size will matter at central defence against tall headers &
Ooijer is right choice.
Kuyt Vs Persie! title fight will go on. Physical and workrate against brillant and speed.possibly depends upon the opponent.

I’m most surprised about Boulahrouz. He is always hailed as the “new Stam”. If he really is deserving of the name he should be in the starting eleven. I’ve heard that he is too slow and too short to be in central defense.

@mike, think the big problem with Boula is his slow play from the back to the midfield, pure on deffence he realy impressed me the last few games he played for Nederland and he played a prety good season for HSV but in the Bundesliga all defenders are very static but thats not what we want in oranje, I think our strenght is in pressing forword so the ball has to go forword a.s.a.p. so no Boula exept when you want a deffender to play man-man but thats not likely to be Marco’s way.

just wanted to know. can it be that Kew Jaliens has been selected just to be replaced? coz the selection has been made very early and selecting an injured player may be a way out to make some last minute corrections to the team…

coz i did not expect Kew Jaliens in the team and also he’s injured for so long!

could it be or i’m going too far??

@Kervin

Your suggestion is certainly plausable. Who’d it be? Not Stam, by the tone of his interview; maybe Makaay or Davids is to be hauled off the beach? Dennis! :)
