Dream transfer for Dirk Kuyt

August 17th, 2006 | By: Jan | 7 Comments »

At last, Dirk Kuyt (26) will make his dream transfer to his fave club, Liverpool.

Both Feyenoord and Liverpool FC have declared this on their website. The Dutch international was signed on for 4 years, Liverpool pays 18 Mio euro for the Dutch striker, a record sum for the Rotterdam based club.

Kuyt: ” This is a dream come true. There were lots of other clubs (Newcastle United among others) but really, Liverpool was the only club I hoped for. Their history, the fans, the name… Fantastic!”

This late move leaves Feyenoord without a central striker. Feyenoord chairman van der Herik: “It does leave us with a problem, but we can’t blame Dirk for that. He deserves this move. We’re happy for him and he deserves a grand farewell. He was always a jewel for Feyenoord, on and off the pitch and we wish him well. This tranfer system means that clubs and trainers are kept in the dark until just for the season’s opening. That’s sad, but we knew that Dirk wouldn’t just pick another club. He always wanted to play for Liverpool and who knows, he may return here after his adventure…. He will always be welcome.”

The sale of Traoure to Carlton Athletic resulted in the influx of a lot of pounds into the account of Liverpool coach Benitez, who decided to spend the money well.

In his three seasons with Feyenoord Kuyt played more than 100 league games. Before that he played five seasons for FC Utrecht. The 22 times capped international scored 122 times in 261 official matches.

As a Liverpool fan I hope he performs better than he did in the World Cup. He looked absolute crap against Portugal and missed several chances to give the Dutch the win in that awful game.

@Goose; Assuming that players benifit by playing in the tougher Premier Leaugue / Champions League Boulahrouz going to Chelsea is going to be good for Oranje as well. Apparantly the transfer is done. Wasn’t expecting that one :)
