Dirk Kuyt, goal scoring machine :-)

Ok, the Dutch Eredivisie is a second tier division in Europe. I grant you that. But being the topscorer in that competition means that you know how to score goals. Van Basten, Kieft, Bergkamp, Kluivert, Huntelaar, Van Nistelrooy… All these lads proved it in Holland and outside of Holland. Dirk Kuyt belongs in that list.

He may not have the technical brilliance of Ronald de Boer, Dennis Bergkamp or Rafael van der Vaart but he is a cleancut killer in the box. His role at Liverpool and Oranje has changed, but to allow everyone a final look: here’s a compilation of what Dirk is capable of. Look at the cleanliness of most strikers. No frills. He makes it look easy. And look at the number of half volleys, taken in one go. The man knows how to score goals. Headers, volleys, tap ins, distance strikes, acute angles, at full speed, penalties…they’re all there.

Watch and tip your hat!

@Jan – Hi Jan, I agree with your article and I don’t think Kuyt is a concern. My bigger concern is really who is going to start as our central defenders. Was wondering if you will be writing an article about our choices for defence anytime soon? I know goal.com has written that Vlaar has bounced back from injury and could be the man to step up for our defence but thats really all the literature i can find on the web.

happy holidays from the great white North.

Loovens recently has been playing himself out of contention, it really has to be Vlaars chance, doesn’t it? Boulahrouz can’t get a game at Stuttgart, Ooijer is a bench warmer. Mathijsen, Heitinga, Vlaar,…?

On the Kuyt thread, All players miss chances. Torres, Drogba, C Ronaldo, Messi, Henry. They have all missed clear cut chances. Maybe, in 06, Ruud would have scored, maybe not. Next time Kuyt may score, he did against France. Not a central striker, but a valuable part of the oranje team, either as a starter, or coming off the bench. He will give 100% in whatever capacity he plays. You won’t see him sulking, like some players have in the past, ei: sneijder. Great attitude, awesome work rate.

Good old Kuyt. He’s nothing fancy, but you won’t find a better attitude or work rate anywhere, and as the video shows he does know how to score goals. He’s a very good player to have on the team, but I also agree with Tiju that he shouldn’t be playing as center forward anymore. Still, I find I have a soft spot for Dirk – he just seems like a good guy, you know?

Also, Merry Christmas to everyone here on the board! Hope everyone has great holidays! :-)

Mario Been said that Vlaar should get a call up to the national team. I totally agree. Jan, it is The Telegraaf that is mentioning that Tottenham wants Babel and Ruud. Usually pretty reputable newspaper, don’t you think? That would be good for both of them but I don’t see how it would play out with Crouch and Defoe. Quarter finals of the KNVB cup could have PSV-Feyenoord. Ajax and Twente should make it past NEC and Sparta. Happy holidays to everyone.

@ Jeff, Been sounds like a very smart guy :)

If you make a roster, its plain simple
——————Vlaar-Ooijer
-speed&agility——–7——5
-physical strenght—-9——8
-mental strength——10—–8(Vlaar came back from 2 years of injury)
-tackling————-8——6(Ooijer really isn’t a great tackler)
-marking————–8——7(Ooijer gets the run around from medium fast opponents)
-heading————–8——8
-experience———–7——9(Ooijer has been in football since KNVB was founded)
-football skills——7——8(Vlaar’s improving weekly though)
(voetballend)
-leader qualities—–9——8(Vlaar has the look, Ooijer tends to have trouble when things get hectic)

Pretty obvious for me :) and Been, and Jeff

Off Topic: What are you guys eating for Christmas? Sorry for asking, but I like good food but I am (still) not a big fella. So I am just curious.

This year we are having a traditional Norwegian dish which is smoked lamb cutlets cooked in a special way with branches of birch in the pot (not joking, it is excelent), with parsnip mash, followed by rice pudding for dessert.

What is on your plate this festive season?

Yummie, Finn!!!

In Holland, it would have been a meat stew or roast lamb or stuffed Turkey or even Indonesian Rijsttafel…

In Australia, where I can’t get used to Christmas at all, it’s chilled white wine ( New Zealand), garlic prawns, turkish bread, salads and some leg ham.

I do buy that German christmas bread, with fruit and castersugar and stuff… :-)

we always eat the same for christmas. the main dish is bouillabaisse de marseille (with lobster, crab, king prawns, mussels and different fishes). it’s almost as delicious as the famous chilli crab (meanwhile i prefer chilli crab :D ). i eat some blinis and pheasant, too. and cakes. anyway gastronomy is an important part of my life so i (and rather my mother) try(ies) to do my (her) best for christmas.

Dirk Kuyt, goal scoring machine,Are you kidding me.Dirk Kuyt is the best defensive striker that i ever know in EPL, how strong and tough he show in EPL games (run and run and run) no creative or clever play from him. The real job of the striker is the goal and score and goal and score, of second striker are created the goal chance and made the score but I don’t see form the Holland
