Davids Injured. Will he make the Holland side?

January 31st, 2006 | By: Matt | No Comments »

Edgar Davids fractured his leg during the Tottneham/Villa match on Saturday. The hair-line fracture appears to be minor. Spurs were hopeful that Davids will play against Fulham today, but Davids was not on the roster.

Hopefully Davids will recover quickly, he has a lot to fight for. Tottenham is currently fighting off Arsenal to secure a Champions League Spot; and Davids World Cup spot is still hanging in Limbo.

Davids was dropped from the Holland vs Italy friendly in November but van Basten has made it clear that Edgar’s role in Dutch side will be decided by his club performance with Tottenham.

Spurs have had a dissapointing season in spite of Davids good form. After being dumped out of every cup, Spurs will play the minimum amount of matches possible for a Premiership side. With no high profile cup matches or european football has Davids been able to show his quality to the Dutch boss?

Marco Van Basten has his hands full. Most of Holland’s midfielders are hovering around the age of 30. Van Basten has plenty of veterans to choose from and has selected Cocu (35) over Davids (32) in the past. Hopefully Van Basten will find a spot for Davids and give him his 74th cap. If this injury keeps Davids off the pitch too long he may loose his spot in Germany this summer.
