@Lerkot: that may be true but even if Seedorf doenst play extraordinary he still belongs to the best midfieldplayers we have in Holland…i mean if vanBasten calls up Landzaat, trys Theo Janssen etc. you can call Seedorf any time

I saw the game and yeah, you are absolutely right but it is the same, with van Basten as coach of Netherlands Seedorf could have scored a hat trick and perhaps will be benches at Oranje. Seedorf played a very impressive game vs. Bayern

Despite what the scoreline suggests I actually thought the AZ-wB game was fairly even. AZ had a disallowed goal when it was still 1-1 which would’ve changed the whole game had it been allowed…

AZ just finished (sure Jan will make a post about it), not a very good week for dutch football… just our luck that this years national competition is such a thriller (still hope Az will win the title!)

both van bommel and seedorf played great and while vb might not have the finesse that seedorf has, i have to admire a player who works as hard as v bommel and brings that much energy/passion on the field. what he lacks in pure skill, i think he makes up for by motivating the players around him into putting in as much effort as he does.

Glad you encapsulated Van Baasten’s thinking. Because you’re right on. And it illustrates why Marco just won’t be a good national team coach.

He just doesn’t accept the reality that he can’t force a system. The week after Oranje’s midfield just didn’t do it, two guys who he decided not to use play huge rolls in Champions League. And rather than Van Baasten thinking – Hmmm. Maybe I should think about that? He says – well they didn’t do the position I gave them on the field.

Well maybe, you should have given them a different role or position? Maybe you need to structure your midfield differently? Maybe you might want to use what you got, rather than wish you had something different?

Van Baasten just doesn’t accept that he can’t mould these players. Their first duty is to there club teams. That’s who pays them. That’s who they practice with 90% of the time. And if they’re team-mates and practice together (Van Bommel and Makaay) maybe Oranje should call them up together?

And it was exactly the same with Van Nistelroy. He gets cut by Oranje and then goes to Real and plays wonderfully. And you just wanted to scream. It wasn’t Van N’s fault at the WC. He never got a single cross that I remember.

And his whining about not having the talent of Germany, England or France? Your kidding me. You don’t think Seedorf, Van N, Van Bommel, Robben, Van Persie, woudn’t get a look from any of those countries?

Oranje will probably qualify, but man stubborn-ness is really costing us.

Personally I think Gullit isn’t all that good a coach, but at least he’s funnier than Van Baasten.
