Great quotes from JC. Probably one of the things I like the most about him is that he hasn’t become an embarrassment to us after his playing days. Compare him to the other 2 really great players, Pele and Maradona… what a difference after their careers ended. Pele is known for making stupid comments, Maradona is (was?) completely messed up, but Cruijff went on to be a successful coach and doesn’t embarrass us with stupid quotes.

@Carlos – Yes, “grounded” can mean punishment where you can’t leave the house, but it’s also possible to say someone is “grounded” and mean it as in humble or down to earth… (at least I’ve heard it before).

The JC quotes are priceless. Have to agree with Goose and his Vermeer comment. Pure genious.

Having said that, one of my favorite TV commentators retired this summer from commenting internationals. He’s an English fellow called John Motson and his voice has covered many a game I have watched over the years. I am sure many of you have heard his voice as well. He also was very funny without meaning to, especially in his later years. Here is some of his quotes:

I find it very entertaining to listen to him, it doesn’t matter if it makes sense. I can remember when they asked him about the squad during the EC, and they asked something lik: “What do you think their line-up should be apart from the controlling pair”
And he said something like, It doesn’t really matter, just put Van up front and 2 controllers and it doesn’t matter where you put the other three players or who they are, just make some tutti frutti out of it. Genius , too bad i couldn’t find that bit or í would’ve quoted it literally.

Great quotes from JC, reminds me a bit of a woman who can never admit she is wrong and thus re invents her quote to prove her point. Also interesting that in religious circles JC and El Salvador actually mean the same thing. Love the clock ticking one…so true a bit like can’t see the forest for the trees. By the way I noticed a lot of people talking about nice players being “grounded” here. I think it should be “down to earth” in English. “Grounded” actually means a punishment (stay at home) mainly for teenagers. But heck guys we all know what the meanngs are

Wesley Sneijder got injured again at Madrid. Real lost 3-1 vs Schuster’s old club Getafe and Sneijder was subbed by Vaart after 15 minutes.

PSV equalized late against Heerenveen, coming back to 2-2 after trailing two goals for most of the match.

I love Johan but I think it was stupid of him not having coached Holland. He had many chances but the real thing is that he didn´t want. We can read stories about Michels and stuff like that but if Cruyff would really have had the desire he would have coached Holland. Anyway, as a player and as a coach he was outstanding.
