WorldCup.itv.com is having a poll. There’s a list of five goals and we, the discerning public, are asked to choose our favourite. My vote goes for Dennis Bergkamp’s goal. If you look up sublime in the dictionary there is a description of this goal. Incidentally the word gullible isn’t in the dictionary either.

Trivia Did you know that Dennis Bergkamp is named after Manchester United legend Denis Law? Denis Law scored 236 goals for United in 393 starts.

Bergkamp’s goal was a stunner. Arie Haan’s thunderbolt against Italy was also a thing of great beauty. To beat the best goalkeeper in the world from that distance with Zoff fully sighted the whole way, simply incredible.
