Braafheid moves to Munich chin up!

June 13th, 2009 | By: Jan | 20 Comments »

Whenever people walk up to Edson Braafheid and ask him whether the step from Twente to Bayern isn’t too big, he friendly hears them out and tells them he doesn’t move to Munich to warm the bench. He bases his confidence on his own strength, but also on his recent talks with Oranje manager Bert van Marwijk.

“When Bayern became serious, I walked up to Van Marwijk during out trainings camp. The coach knows the Bundesliga well, due to his stint at Borussia Dortmund and he knows me. Is asked him, should I consider this? What with the WC coming up and all. He immediately said he’d go if he was me and he didn’t think I wouldn’t have a chance to make it in the team.”

Braafheid had one interview with Van Gaal. The Twente back doesn’t want to bring out the exact contents of the talk. “But I can say that Van Gaal convinced me. They want to use me for two spots in the team. Left back and center back. I will go for a starters’ position and I will go for a spot in Oranje. The bigger the challenge, the better.”

The 26-year old already spent a day in Munich to finalize all the details. The medical has also been done.

“I will play for the biggest club of Germany. The club of Beckenbauer and Gerd Muller. I never thought of something like that. I’m so proud. When I was 12, I saw them play Ajax in 1995, the semi finals CL. Bayern was a top team then and I think Van Gaal will get them back at that level.”

“I like that about Bayern…they don’t want to play Champions League, they want to win it.”

Before the German record champs showed interest, Braafheid had negotiated with Ajax and PSV. The Amsterdam club thought they had him already, but Bayern interfered and is the laughing third.

“There was no deal with Ajax. The talks I had with them didn’t go smoothly. The last meeting I had was even a bit negative, about all the conditions and all that. My dad was there too and he told me later he thought this was not a good move. After that, I focused on Oranje and in the meantime Bayern was ready to do business. They were more focused than the others.”

Braafheid will be a new mate of Mark van Bommel in South Germany: “I don’t worry about that debate whether Twente – Bayern is a big step. Anyone can see what talent, skill and mentality Edson has. That’s more than enough. He fits into Oranje and the level at Oranje is comparable to Bayern. No problems…”

“He’s got the speed to defend space behind him and he has the vision to determine when he can move up and when not. I think he can even grow. He will only get better, training with Bayern and under Van Gaal.”

Van Bommel knew about Bayern’s search for a left back. “We now have Phillip Lahm there, but no one else. Lahm can also play on the right, he’s actually right-legged. So, Edson can take care of the left flank.”

Lahm isn’t at all that of a great defender, can be very sloppy. Sometimes I wonder if he would be better of on midfield. But, Lahm can also play RB, Bayern are looking ar TB’s now, but their last objective;Bosingwa, isn’t likely to join Bayern from Chelsea. I’m not too worried for him. Although when Boulahrouz went to Chelsea I wasn’t worried either, and that didn’t turn out how I would have expected.

Andy van der Meyde, now there is a name from the what the hell went wrong file! He looked so good at Euro 2004.

Edson Braafhied should do well with Big Louis at Bayern. Will he replace Gio at LB or Ooijer at CB in Oranje?

Yep. He’s out at Everton and might come back with a vengeance. Good cross!
Not Oranje material any more though…

Drenthe possibly to Paris Saint-Germain?
Villa said to join Real for 37 million euros
Inter would like to trade Maicon+20 million for Sneijder
Robben offered in swap with Xabi Alonso, or Heinze + fair amount of money, last option most likely.
That would put Real Madrid on roughly 200 million already spent, thats more than 3 times the budget of Ajax.
It’s looking more and more like Perez will get his way after all.
I really hope that the economic market bubble in football, that has been growing steadily for decades explodes with one hell of a bang, with investors running away left and right. That would mean utter chaos in Madrid, Ronaldo’s value dropping to less than 10 million :)
And the licensing system of the KNVB would actually pay off.

So as it looks now, Robben and Huntelaar have the best chance of staying at Real.
Given that Kaka, Ronaldo, and maybe even X.Alonso aren’t real strikers nor have a fixed place on the left. And David Silva is unlikely to join as well, at least for now. Kaka, Alonso? are most likely to compete with Sneijder and V.d.Vaart, since they can be seen as central midfielders.
And with possibly Villa coming, that would be the biggest rival for the Hunter, I’m not too sure about Higuain, Raul is at his end, so is V.Nistelrooij. Besides he joined in January, had an impressive scoring spree in his short period, and signed for 4 years.
Anyway, at least one of Robben, V.d.Vaart, Sneijder looks to be pushed out by the new signings.

Alex, it doesn’t really matter I think how much Real spends. Since apparently whenever a corporation can’t repay their debts the taxpayers of that country end up repaying the loans to the banks (under the term “financial support”). Since the owners at Real probably are as big buddies with the owners of the various banks as these bankers are buddies with the various construction and development corporations that caused the so-called economic crisis according to the banker owned media, I really don’t see anything new here.

So there will be no economic crisis for Real until the bankers decide it’s time to collect some extra taxes from their slaves and they decide it’s time for the media to report as such. And who knows if that will ever happen in the case of Real, probably not.

Plenty of other corporations to declare bankrupt (after obtaining a few more loans and governmental financial support).

Alex, what is your source for that transfer information by the way, cause if those transfers go through, it would be a very good thing for the Dutch players at Real Madrid. At least they’ll get to play probably.

According to Marca, the Spanish paper, the deal between Real and Valencia for Villa is done.

It will be made official this week.

What happened to the recession I am experiencing? Am I the only one?

This guy needs to start over gio hahaha. im sorry gio may bring leadership and experience but he is so slow, and horrid at defending. Although the freakish pace of Mathijsen and Ooijer make up for it ;) I hope braafheid develops and plays for bayern under van gaal and hopefully he will be ready to take the left back spot for the national side.

ferenc, good link. Having Ruud and Huntelaar both in the bench would be stupid, one of them has to leave although I’d love to see them bench Villa which I know they’re capable of doing.

*They have to invest in defense if they want to have success as a team. Ricardo Carvalho, Daniel Agger or Maicon are some interesting players. Raul has to be in the bench.

casillas
ramos pepe albiol maxwell
diarra xabi alonso (maybe, but i hope not)
ronaldo kaka robben
villa

bench: marcello,garay,guti,raul,higuain.

this is what i think, but even this line-up is a shame because their best player of 08/09 (higuain) is not there. this guy played winger, midfielder, whatever and despite this fact he managed to score twentysomething times. (he’s a forward)
i’m totally agree that they have to invest in defense because only attacking is nice but not enough for winning trophies. anyway they won’t. i have 2 dreams for 2010: barca winning the cl (especially because the final will be at the bernabeu),oranje winning the world cup.
huntelaar should go to manu, ruud to tottenham, sneijder to atletico/inter/milan,vdv to chelsea or italy, drenthe to greece or psg. in the potential line-up i only consider robben as a real madrid player in 2009/2010.
