Bordering Blasphemy

May 20th, 2006 | By: Mike | 9 Comments »

Prepare to curl up in a ball, close your eyes and put your fingers in your ears. Supposedly the Germans were the better team in the 1974 final? That’s what some computer at the University of Groningen is telling us. Good for those scientists for writing an un-biased program but is it right…? The Dutch had the prize snatched from them when it should have been there’s right?

The very foundations of my beliefs are shaken! I need to go eat some cheese and drink a Heineken…wait its 9.30am.

i don’t believ these computer programs, a program can’t say who is better.
every one knows that holland was the best team in 1974.

A reminder the Germans are just sore that there team is not supposed to do well this world cup and have to take it out on the Dutch to restore there national pride.

Whew! Was a bit worried for a while. Thought your post meant over the entire tournement. In the final game (it’s taken over thirty years to come to terms with this), W Germany probably were … nah, still can’t say it.

Hmmm, I think the Dutch in ‘74 were too arrogant. They SHOULD have won, but I think THEY thought it was theirs by right.
As for this world cup, I hope the Dutch will win it, they invented total football, and it deserves a world cup !!

Hup Holland Hup !!

Martijn, okay so they probably didn’t say any of that in the room. Maybe they believed the hype that was going around. The Dutch got better as the tournament progressed and it was the smart bet to go with the Dutch.

I think that the early goal might have been more damaging than anything though.

Hey guys, I think the Bild incident (pool and hookers) was of more impact than anything else. Cruyff almost didn’t play that game, you know?
