Well what do you know…M. Blatter agrees with 98% of those reading this blog in that the referee was AWFUL yesterday. That makes me feel a little better.

I think the Dutch will win Euro 2008. Everyone will be better plus Huntelaar will be on the team.

The Dutch may not certainly have won even if the ref was not so inconsistent but they certainly would have had a better chance. Robben would have had a penalty in the box after that high, studs-out kick to the chest, also, Deco(i think) would have been off with a red card after his head-butt giving the Dutch an even greater numerical advantage. Blatter is just saying that the winner deserved it simply to cover his ass…. if he said that they didn’t deserve to win then what would happen??

Ok Portugal fans, you wanna talk shit? Scolari said before the game that “this is going to be a war, and that his players were going to have to die for Portugal”. Seems like that is exactly what they did. No referee could have dealt with the way they played. They would have been down to 7 men and would have conceded 2 penalty kicks, if the game was officiated fairly.
Remember when i told you C. Ronoldo was a girl? maybe the site of him crying on the bench is consistant with that statement? Why did he leave the game anyway? we all so the close up of his “injury”, it was a bruise with a couple of red marks from the cleats. Players pick up these types of injuries all the time, there is no real damage, only a prima donna girl would leave a world cup game for an injury like that. Sure it hurts a little but he will be just fine for the next game, you will see.
Has anyone heard how long Figo’s suspension will be? The Italian who threw the elbow at Mcbride got 4 games. An intentional head butt should be worth at least that?
The whole world watched that game and saw how Portugal played, shame on you! And you were asking why your team gets no respect? Do you think you earned someones respect with that performance?
But, at least you did earn yourself a record number of cards for a world cup game, wow, the biggest win in your nations pathetic football history, is also a FIFA world cup record for shameful and unsportsman like performance. Good job Portugal!
It seems to me that you don’t even have any players left for your game with England. The only way you can beat them is to play the way you did against Holland, at which point anything is possible, but if you do that you may not have enough players left to field for the next game, litereraly. Maybe, you can make world cup history again, and forfeit!
We CAN’T WAIT TO PLAY YOU AGAIN!
As for your comments about the guy who runs this web site, He outposts your lazy Portuguese page 4 to 1. And his posts are good articles with relevent information about the team and world cup, your site, well lets just say the fact that you spend more of your time posting here speaks for itself.
And no matter what idiotic statements you make here, remember we will get our chance to rub salt in your wounds after your team loses to England; So just keep talking Portuguese shit talkers, cause your gonna be getting it all back with interest, just like the next time you face Netherlands on the pitch. Your time is coming Portugal. Hup Holland.

micha I’m going to personally remember you and call you out when Portugal beat England.

In the mean time, the salt that the Dutch players are using for their wounds is running out…yes we beat them up THAT bad at football! Van Nistelrooy is even rubbing some, eventhough he was on the bench haha. Better hurry up and deliver them that salt.

Kelvin … dude.. what is it exactly are you still wanking about??

you won the game.. period. No discussion about it. We have our frustrations and reservation but you still won the damn game.. Period. Now move on..

Mike is moving on just fine.. He is posting about the refereing issue in this WC.
What do you expect us to say when the 120 minutes of last night’s game (Ukraine-Switzerland) featured only ONE yellow card.. while a night before the 97 minutes of our game featured 20 card all in all.

As a football fan, Kelvin, whether you were with portugal or even madagascar, dont you think there is an issue of consistency here at least???

Go also to yesterday’s game between Italy and Australia. Here you have a case, in which the ref can be in the postion of handing the win or loss to the teams just by the blow of a whistle… Really you have to be extremely bold and confident of what you saw as a ref for you to blow the whistle at the very dying seconds of the match and decide this was a penalty. This was almost gift from god for the Italians so much it came from no where. The foul was not a direct-clean-deliberate-visible-explicit foul… The Italian passed by the defender and then stumbled.. There was contact of course but mothing substantial. So it was most likely a 50/50 call. Yet the ref decides to call it a penalty and give Italia the victory.

Unlike many here Kelvin, I DO think that we lost to a very big extent due to the REF. If dumb Blatter says otherwise doesnt mean I’m convinced. Whatever you might say you know deep inside that our team is at the level of your team.. They are both strong and capable. You scored the goal first however and before any of that fiasco took place.. Then the ref killed the game.. He blew the whistles, broke down the rhythm and concentration of the playing.. From there your task could not have been easier.. You only needed to defend and keep that ball out of your net, regardless of how many players were sent off.. We, on the other hand, needed to do all the hard work still and get a goal within the atmosphere and conditions that were created in the 2nd half.. This was impossible. Many in here already stated that it seemed from the 70th minute and onwards that the Dutch were not gonna score, and its definitely true. There was no focus, concentration, composure, rhythm… all the mental ingredients that are required for you to come back from a goal down and score a goal.. and all that against a tough opponent like portugal.

The Refereeing in this WC is extremely bad. I for one thank Mike for his efforts to post threads concerning the Ref situation.. This should be the last WC with such a low standard of Refereeing. Full Stop.

Hope you stop bother us, Kelvin. Theres no point for you to still come here if u want to talk about Holland-Portugal… This game is History.

Surely video technology can be used for major incidents in a game.

I would use video technology for the following instances:

Red Cards.
Goals (were offside is possibilty).
Penalty.

Usually any of these things that happen usually stops play anyway, so at least it would stop players complaing to the officials. Probably save time as well. What is Fifa waiting for…lets hope it get introduced for Euro 2008.

LOL. I seat here and laugh at some comentaries about how Portugal should of lost and that they played with no fairplay. Damm must i remind everyone that the in the FIRST 5 minutes of the game holland should of been penalised with a expulsion and would of left them with absolutly NO CHANCES agaist the portuguese team? Not only would we have played in numerical advantage we would have keept most our players because that stupid wave of violence would never had happen. MR van basten should also be ashamed of his behaveor telling his player not to give the ball back and letting his defense butcher cristiano ronaldo when if anyone still remember his carrer ended because of a violent tackle. Regards from portugal.

I expect you to admit the Dutch side’s responsibility for their game devolving into a melee. Anyone who wasn’t a Dutch partisan could see what was happening.

Nothing serious was happenening before Figo started his dirty work.

Deliberately buttheading Van Bommel and then acting after Boulahrouz’s challenge..

Khalid and Andre were so frustrated at the bad call made by the ref that they lost control of their nerves. Very understanding from a dutch point of view..

We don’t tolerate dirty play.. We don’t call you cheaters but you are not honest players either.. We are. The Dutch frustration after the Figo incident is very understandable from a Dutch point of view…

From there on, we acted wrong. We did not have the experience to maintain our cool and remain focused and concentrated on scoring a goal. No we got caught in the stupid storm you and the dumb ref created. Heitinga acted very unsportsmanlike when he did not return the ball- a play that was most likely going to end up fruitless anyway.. and so on and so forth..

But please dont come and tell us about your innocence — and blame us for the melee.. I’m sorry sir, you are definitely mistaken. Even Eurosport gave a say in this.. Theres a video called “Big Phil In Denial” on the site, where the media accuse Phil The Dog of dirty play. Despite him denying any of that, Eurosport still make him look ridiculous for not admitting the bad behaviour of his team during the game. Check it out.. Maybe you and your stupid boring friends will stop bothering us a little.
Its not only us Dutch partisans complaning :) .. about you dirty bastards.

I think this is the last word on the game. By the infamous ref himself:

“You would expect some dirty tricks from the Portuguese. They are known for time-wasting or hitting from behind,” he said. “But I was unpleasantly surprised by seeing such things from the Dutch. More so, they were the instigators.”

Mr RAMI are you on drugs?? Are you teling me figo started de hole mess? so before the headbut of figo there was only love between the teams? I even saw cristiano ronaldo limp off the field because he was madly hugged and kissed by the dutch defense. Dont be a sad looser man. Admit you litle pussies wanted to play ruff football but could not handle the big boys. Grow up and then comme back again for more beating. And dont come talking about EUROSPORT because anyone with brains nows that they are ALWAYS beating on portugal because we always kick englands ass too. Love to Holland from Portugal. Keep on smoking grass and leave soccer alone

I dont realy care about England. I would rather see Portogal win this game. At least I can say we lost from a semi finalist or finalist.

I would love to see another game war with England, so the media supported by the english media would blast and would show us whats going on.

Mike and those:
Who do you expect to retire from Holland ? Will RVN stay in form Euro 2008 ?

Van Basten should be ashamed of himself.Because he has an ego.when you’re defending your country,as a coach he should come with edgard davids, this guy is an iron in the midfield, maybe with him we could go further,so ithink he is an idiot. He should resign or get fired. He is a fool.

The dogs bark and the caravan goes on? You must have trouble adjusting to Sweden, no stray dogs on the streets or caravans of chuckwagons coming through, sounds like your homesick. England is not a very good team these days, I would put most of the blame on their outgoing Swedish coach Erikson; taking two broken strikers to the world cup and filling another spot with a 17 year old kid that has not even made his club debute with Arsenol. It’s clearly apparent that he’s too scared to play him, so they have a real lack of depth and production up front. If England lose fragile Rooney to some questionable Portuguese tackling they won’t even have enough strikers left to play 442 formation. But they do have quality everywhere else, except in goal. So even a depleted Portugal team playing the dirty game portugal has shown, could have a chance but I sure hope they lose, go England. Hup Holland.

Overall, I think the referees’ performances so far have been inconsistent. Ivanov lost control of Holland-Portugal match. Referee made mistakes in giving Ghana the penalty against US, the second yellow to Lucic of Sweden in Germany game, and the Italy penalty against Australia. Clamming down in acting/diving/cheating is not consistent. Being a Dutch fan, I think the fault against C. Ronaldo by a Dutch defend deserved a red card. I also did not like the way the Dutch did not return the ball to Portugal, creating all the chaos afterward. I hope the young Dutch team learn well from this experiences so they can win the Euro 08 and the WC in 2010. The talents and potentials are there, as Van Basten and players all realize that they have not played the way they want yet.

@Ian, comment about Boula deserving a red card is very true, very nasty on Ronaldo(but was beautiful to see him cry!!), saw Boula take to strikers out in the Bundesliga in half an hour in a simular way, dont like that at all
about returning the ball: it was a referee ball, so both teams got to compete for it after the ref drops the ball, its Portugals fault that they didnt compete for the ball and expected the dutch to give them the ball , now it may not be realy gentlemens like cause Portugal had the ball when the ref. blowed his wisle but its the rules and the game was just not a fair game from the beginning, it didnt start in the 80 minute!!

its weird how everyone remembers the Heitinga incident and not the one that stimulated it: the figo incident.

Hope all of you complaining out there are not naive enough to consider Heitinga’s behaviour in a vaccum and not in context.
One took place after the other folk !! and in many ways Boulahrouz red card and Figos simulation(s) led the Dutch to go mad, and thus the Heitinga incident..

I dont really understand what dumb ivanov means when he says they were the instigators ?? If by this he means what Heitinga did, then please everyone disregard his stupid comment.. Not even worth acknowledging !!
