Barcelona impresses in 2nd CL leg

October 2nd, 2007 | By: Jan | 1 Comment »

I don’t know about you but I watched Barca’s performance against Stuttgart yesterday and I am in awe!! You know why? They played fantastic as a team unit, without ever reaching the superb brilliance they showed us two seasons back. But the machinery rocks!! Messi is a constant threat and works hard for the team. Deco is all brains. Iniesta does what he has to do, without glitter and glam but sooo in control. The defenders are three classes above the Oranje defense and then I haven’t even mentioned Ronnie and Henry!!! Even Valdes was super! They could have scored 6 times (and Stuttgart at least once, to be honest). But the team rocked. High pace, great positioning, the first touches, the runs, the duelling… Hats off!

I was extremely impressed and I even think most people who saw them play would have thought “ah well, another ok performance by Barca…”. But it was not. It was breathtaking.

But hey, that’s just me….

PSV lost against Inter Milan (or Zlatan rather, man was he good….). They weren’t defeated. They were just brushed aside as if they were an obnoxious fly. And three days after Koeman told the world international top clubs were sleeping for now recognizing goalie Gomez’ talent, the Brazilian keeper let his team down.

Arsenal won thanks to a Van Persie header.

Glasgow Rangers crushed Lyon in their away game 0-3 !! With a goal by former PSV striker DeMarcus Beasly. What is it with Scottish and French teams nowadays?

It was all good, all fun, all bizz as usual, except for….BARCA!!

Note: watch this space for my rave on Real Madrid tomorrow…. :-). Is a finals Real - Barca possible?

Jan: you should have seen last wednesday against zaragoza - it was the perfection. yesterday - like you mentioned - it was ok. but in these circumstances we cannot perform better: normally our defence is: zambrotta, puyol, milito, abidal - zambrotta and milito are injured, puyol got injured,so at the end our defence was more than experimental. and they did a good job. we lost all of our 3 defending midfielder - they are blessed (yaya, rafa, edmilson).iniesta was our defending midfielder and he did a good job. but he’s not a yaya toure in this position. so i would say ok but we need 4 weeks to perform our 05/06 level: by this time yaya, zambrotta, rafa and eto will be back. with them barca is the strongest team in the world without any doubt. and this year they play as a team and got the hunger, the winning mentality.
hope that puyol’s injury not too bad. and milito will return. at the moment we have only 4 defenders: oleguer, thuram, sylvinho, abidal. and no defending midfielder. maybe rijkaard should play too:-)

robin won arsenal’s last 2 games. i hope that milan will return to its best. my dream cl final would be barca-milan. (i like milan because of its gullit-rijkaard-van basten history, and for clarence - sorry guys for that but actually i like more clarence that the 4 real players, and when i support milan it means i support clarence. but in barca-milan it’s obvious that barca should win)

goose: we have one thing in common - in the pl arsenal is my fav team because of dennis bergkamp and i’ve been hating inter since dennis’ inter days.
