After a short hiatus, I have returned. The first order of business was directed to me by reader Jan. If…IF…van Basten had asked Dennis Bergkamp to come to Germany what do you think he would have said? “Sorry Marco, I’m retired”? Apparently not.

The gist of the article translates like so (^5 to Jan for the translation):

Bergkamp answered the hypothetical question of what he would have done had he been approached by Marco van Basten. Smiling he said: “It’s logical that in your last couple of months you really want to play football. You think at that moment that it would not have been a bad thing.”

The 37-year old put his chances in perspective: “You have to of course be realistic. There are a lot of players in form and they deserve it more than I do.”
