AZ bypasses Feyenoord in budget…

AZ beats Feyenoord….

In Dutch football, there really isn’t a top 3 anymore. Nowadays, we talk about the “traditional top 3″ and in that case we mean Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV.

But last season, AZ was the number 1 and FC Twente the number 2 in the standings. In terms of budget however, AZ has also settled itself among the top. AZ now has a higher budget than Feyenoord, a unique fact.

The Alkmaar club is one of the exceptions in the Eredivisie, with an increasing budget. AZ has 40 million euros to spend, 12 million (!) more than last season. And two million more than Feyenoord.

The Rotterdam club has to cut 8 million euros out of the budget. This is a result of the disastrous last season. The club finished 7th and missed the European ticket, with all implications related to that.

Feyenoord does not, however, suffer from the economical crisis. The club sold 30.000 seasons ticket (and counting), the sponsor units are sold out and the business seats are almost sold out.

AZ has sold many seasons tickets while the sponsor seats are all out of the door, what with Champions League football this season.

PSV made a fortune in the CL in the last seasons, but this time around PSV will have to miss that ship of gold. PSV has to cut 4 million euros from the budget. PSV, and all Eredivisie clubs, will make 10% less tv-broadcast money this season.

NAC predicted earlier to make a big leap forward but the crisis did hit Breda. The budget there remains 13,5 million.

ADO Den Haag (Goose!) does profit from the new venue. With a 15 million euros budget, ADO is even part of the “left column”. Chairman Jagersma: “And I think we haven’t even made the most of our regional positioning here…”

Twente, Heerenveen and Groningen also sail against the economical tide with sound financial budgets. FC Groningen’s biggest signing this summer is a new marketing executive.

Thanks OranjeRules! You beat me to it.

We’ll do a post soon with season’s predictions, ok? We can use some stats to see what the blog thinks… :-)

RKC – Now there’s a blast from the past. I thought they had gone out of business by now. Gio used to play there I think? I even think Martin Jol was manager there at some point.

Anyway, a great small club that defies gravity and returns to the Eredivisie. Of course being a catholic club makes life a little more interesting also…especially playing my Ajax…

Good stuff. I like these little clubs.

@orangerules ohh dear we will stop the prediction of eredivise, let us go to WC2010.that would be more interesting.
For me
Champion-Brazil(if they face spain they will see the exit door before the final itself, then spain is the my candidate)
Runner up-Germany
Thired-spain
Fourth-Dutch/England?????????????ohhhhhh noooooooooo an african team probably ivory coast or south africa
so why brazil
They always gets easy route to final
Germany always plays with terrifc mental power.
Spain-the most balenced and consistant team(if dutch is not winning the gold i will follow spain only my second favorite team after dutch)
Fourth-Very difficult to predict and i remmember Korea2002.may be heartbroken enland/Dutch/Southafrica/Ivory coast.(every world cup has an unexpected semifinalist in the last four)

Everybody says Brazil won 5 Worldcups why??????????????
Coz they partcipated in all the world cups.it is very esy to qualify from latin american qualification section coz they gest 4.5 seats out of 10 (Even in oldendays they had luxuary no of seats).so it makes the things much easy for a team like brazil/Arjentina kinds of teams.
Let us think about if brazil was in europe then wat will be the result???. At least they wouldhave missed 4/5 world cups for sure.

^Nah Spurs would be a much better idea. It’s a much stronger league after all, and he would easily fit in Tottenham. Though he would have quite a lot of competition.

Carlos, Gio never played at RKC :-) .

He was developed at Feyenoord and went to Glasgow…

I do believe Regi Blinker played there though… And Boulahrouz (under Jol).

And a bloke Harry… Can’t think of his surname. Great player. Very skilled.

Made a big move to Germany (borussia dortmund??) but injuries killed his career…

Gotta find info on him…

van marwijk obviously supports hunterlaar’s possible move to VfB Stuttgart.
I can translate the entire article if anyone would like me to.

Adabayor gets big offer from Man City. Opens the way for Hunter to go to Arsenal. Match made in heaven. I always said Hunter was the missing link for The Gunners!

That would be good for Gooners and Hunter, and bad for my ‘pool.

You have to laugh at Tevez though. Complains about not getting enough playing time at Man Utd, signs with Man Citeh in order to play every week, only to find himself fighting for a spot with Santa Cruz (Who is Mark Hughes golden child from his Blackburn days) and now Adebayor. Ha Ha Ha.

Excellent. They can’t even make this stuff up :-)

I’d love to see Huntelaar in Arsenal. The Bundesliga is a good league but Huntelaar deserves to be in one of the top teams.

Oh I forgot, Citeh also has Bellamy on their books so even if they button Robinho down on the flank, there’s a bunch of guys fighting for spots up front. Tevez must be wondering if this was a great move.

Now, it should also be said that Citeh had one of the worst defenses in the Prem last season and the only news about their defense is that Micah Richards caught swineflu in Cyprus and is quarantined in some posh hotel.

Why buy a striker every week when you need defenders?

Huntelaar to Roma would be a terrible move – Roma is my most hated team in the world because they are filled with poor-sport douchebags like Totti. Glad that it seems that transfer won’t work out. Stuttgart would be good because the Bundesliga is very competitive and he’d also get to play CL football. Tottenham would be ok, but no CL football. I’m not so sure whether Arsenal would need Huntelaar… they already have Eduardo who is from very much the same mold – killer in the box type of player. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see some more dutchies at Arsenal (my favourite team), but I wouldn’t want him to go there and not end up playing very much…

@Jan, not being a stickler about this but I am not convinced that you are correct on Gio. I think he played for RKC in 93-94 season before he joined Feyenoord.

@Tiju: Brazil won 3 WC’s when Pele played and in ‘94 and ‘02.

Tottenham for Huntelaar would be best I think. Even without CL, it’s the best competition.

And I just want him out of Madrid!

Finn…. Gio at RKC??? Before he broke into Feyenoord 1?

I have GOT TO check this. I lived in Rotterdam in those days…

i’ll resign from this job in shame if you’re right.

And then you take over…

@Jan: I don’t want your job as that would cause a revolution on here and I would have to enter the witness protection program. We don’t want any of that do we?

Still could swear Gio played that season for RKC.

I just put a contract out on a Mr Finnster – said to be Norwegian – hangs around Irish pubs during football games, can usually be spotted with 2 large blondes on each arm. Shoot first ask questions later. – Giuseppe Corleone !
