Aussies are quaking
The Socceroos sound really worried about facing the Netherlands in the upcoming friendly. They seem particularly terrified by Ruud van Nistelrooy. Those poor Roos, I hope they don’t wet themselves or anything.
It will also be a battle of Dutch tactitians: Guus Hiddink vs. Marco van Basten. I am hoping for an exciting match.

I am an admirer of the attacking prowess of the Dutch team and so hope they win the match against the Aussies . Van Basten could employ the same strategy and cavalry he used to dismantle the Cameroon defence . Hiddink on the other hand is still tuning the team and assesssing the fitness of his players. The Socceroos should take the friendly as a test for the final examination and not as an indicator of future performance. I expect a tight affair with the Netherlands clinching the tie.
Good Luck to both the teams!

Regardless though, I think its a great team to go up against for practice.

I think this is a perfect team for our boys to go up against before our final freindly against Liechtenstein.
It will give Guus a good chance to access our weaknesses going up against a team which could be considered one of the favourites. The game against Liechtenstein should be no more than a confidence builder.
Bring it on!

Hmmm… Knowing Guus, he’ll use the strengths of the Socceroos and target the weaknesses of the Dutch. The smart bastard
. I think Oranje will lose against Oz. The Socceroos will play a physical game against Holland and the Dutch will be lured into the same type of game, and thus not play the Dutch Style. Guus will gloat, v Basten will use the experience for the better, the Socceroos will home after 3 matches and Holland will become World Champions, partly thanks to Guus and the Socceroos… Well?

The performance of the Netherlands last time around was just too poor.

Maybe, but every WC is different i.e. France 98 to France 02.
I have been a long admirer of Dutch football and have backed them continiously at WC and they always dissapoint me. However, this time round, I feel Marco has the team where he wants them…ready for a great WC.

At last a top team for Australia to play before the world cup.
I don’t think the Australians are worried. They respect one of the best teams in Europe and coaches.
Even Guus said that they are a better team than Australia. But that’s what we need.
No teams that come here for a holiday.

It surprises me when two qualifiers arrange a friendly before hand, even if they are not likely to meet in the tourney. This could be a banana skin for Nederland.

I recon its a very bad thing to do … i mean if they get pumped 4-1 then confidence drops .. it woyld hve been better to play a team like USA or Ghana who are both strong and a close result would have emerged

I follow both the ‘Oranje’ and the socceroos, though i have to admit that i’d rather the Netherlands win, as they’ve paid their dues and truly deserve to lift the cup. One thing is for sure, you CANNOT count out te roos. They have improved 10 fold under Hiddink and they played well against Greece in Melbourne winning 1-0. They have adopted a dutch style of play and i can’t wait to see this match. I predict Holland 2-0. Only because the Aussies have not yet perfected the art of posession football which the Dutch are such masters of. Aust. also lacks the killing istinct infront of goals, especially without Kewell and the Dutch, technically, are a far superior team.

so much for the incredible NL team. all the top teams are over-rated. we (AUS)beat england, uruguay, greece and now drew with No.3 ranked team. the only wetting aussies will do is in the bar where we will drink u under the table.
