And the Oscar goes to….Sonneveld!!

March 18th, 2009 | By: Jan | 21 Comments »

A picture says more than a thousand words right? Well, a YouTube clip says more than a WC and an EC as a far as I’m concerned.

Our blogger-friend Sonneveld produced this clip and uploaded it to YouTube and it is

THE BEES KNEES!!!

So hail to Quentin Sonneveld for his debut (more to come?) and please accept our symbolic little Gold Bald Fella… Well done, S, and keep more of this coming…

awesome clip, when you see the goals like that you notice just how many of them were headers. And all this latest talk about V.d.Sar, Co Adriaanse predicted not too long ago that Stekelenburg “will” become a top goalkeeper. Sorry folks, but when Co says something, I take it seriously.

BTW, got this from a reliable source> 100 % Atletico fan, he said Heitinga earned back respect and trust from the fans by his recent performances against Villareal, Real madrid and Barcelona as a right-back. Just shows you how opinions can change overnight.

update, the last few weeks have been hectic in dutch defenderland V.d.Wiel and Marcellis for me at least lost their places on performance these last weeks, but still on top is Mathijsen with concistent weekly input for HSV.
Runner up Atletico outcast John Heitinga has received a new chance by coach Resino at RB and does a lot better.
Surprise of the time are Ron Stam, RB, played good both defending as attacking and Michael Dingsdag, Heerenveen CB, they played a very solid run of matches and earned themselves a lead over internationals Marcellis, V.d.Wiel and Braafheid.
Braafheid, of the three named above, dropped the least in performance, looked solid.

with overall rating for games played in last few weeks.
1-Mathijsen, 7.6
2-Heitinga 7.4
3-Ron Stam 7.3

4-Dingsdag 7.2
5-Braafheid 7.2

honourable mentions for some old acquaintances
-Melchiot, 7, still going strong in PL.
-Verhaegh, 7, did good but, not as good as others this period.
-Hofland, 7, did quite well this period.
-Boulahrouz, 7, played stronger than before, showed to me he might be finally turning back into the cannibal for next season.
-Loovens, 7, although he might have only played one game this period, did very well against Rangers.

and remarkable dutchies

-Sprockel,6.9, did surprisingly well with Vitesse.
-Kruiswijk, 6.7, earned back his starting position for Anderlecht and made preliminary squad for oranje B, but lost points as well.
-V.d.Wiel, 6.4, dropped considerably in overall performance and got himself a red card in UEFA Cup.
-Marcellis, 6.5, pretty much same here

Ajax are at 2-2 in Extra Time, (3-4 on Aggregate). So we need 2 more in the last 15 minutes to win it.

plz put Steks back as first keeper. Vermeer is just NOT good enough. Both goals he could have saved if he was faster. He also comes way too far out of his area when he shouldn’t. He tries to play it composed like van der Sar when he just isn’t that good.

Well Ajax is out. I think we should announce Marseille the most hated team in The Netherlands. First they knock PSV out of Uefa CUp contention, then Twente, then Ajax.

i hate marseill. we dominated them tonight. played 1 touch passing along the wings in triangles. we owned their asses and we lost because they had two lucky and stoppable counters. our ball possession was 64%. we can be proud to have a really talented team. best players were suarez and asiati.. anita was amazing in the holding role… maybe someone we could use in oranje.

i don’t care about the dutch defense anymore, as long as we score more goals tinga-ogre-joris-gio can stay.

i’m upset. ajax should have scored in the last minutes at least twice. the second marseille goal was a huge collective error. very sad not seeing any dutch team in the last eight at least in the uefa cup. no ajax-barca supercup final:-(

I think all the playoff is damaging the Dutch league. Teams stop playing after 3/4 season because they know that they gonna play playoff. Recently the 2nd didn’t get the ticket to CL but the number 3,4,5(which is worse than number 2) will get it because they have luck in the playoff and then they will throw it away after the qualification game. Now what we are seeing is that no Dutch team in the CL and UEFA cup any more.

Ajax beat by a French team with a Belgian coach.

This one is very hard to swallow.

Van Basten yet again showing his managerial skills (that is lack of) when it counts the most. Why do the Stekel thing just when the only thing left to really realistically play for is the UEFA Cup? There was no need for that nonsense. All that did was introduce insecurity in the back four and look what happened. I can’t believe he actually did that at this juncture.

MVB is just not up for it. Doesn’t cut it. I put all the blame on him. Just watch, he’ll be gone in a year or so.

those 3, yes, defenitaly, but I’m not too much of a defender fan :) , just think it’s interesting to follow some internationals and give others some sight into talents, surprises in eredivisie since the overall opinion about our defenders is negative. Ever since i made this list once, just started watching and following different defenders a bit more. But you could say I feel, you need to put down a solid centre, you can build from there with attacking backs, and more free roles upfront. I can enjoy a spectacular tackle or a good block, like the ones Boulah made in the EC. But mostly i’m a one-touch fast football fan, Arsenal, 2006 CL winning Barca squad and of football like the lightning fast counters oranje had against Italy and France.
BTW @ finnster,
V.Basten didn’t change at all, Ajax now is just as inconsistent as oranje was under VB. He still makes the same mistakes.

@Sonneveld – nice job on the video, I enjoyed it very much :-)

I also agree with Kevin and Jan, the playoff’s encourage teams to do just enough to get in. I like rewarding teams with the most consistency over a season – this is how football leagues always work. Wasn’t there talk about getting rid of them before? Whatever happened to that?
