Klose and Van Bommel need an abacus…

Congrats to Mark van Bommel and co. Setting a new record in the Champions League, if I’m not mistaken: 12-1 is the aggregate score against Sporting Lisbon, with the Oranje man scoring one.

Bayern Munich, a dark horse for the title?

Guus Hiddink loaths the English tabloids paired with the pub antics of most players. An important reason why Harley Hiddink never worked in England. That, and the fact he never was asked :-) .

Last week, he got it in spades. Ashley Cole and John Terry were involved in a pub brawl and Cole was fined 100 pounds by the police. Chelsea added a huge fine on top (180.000 euros!) and Guus took Terry and Cole in for a long talk. But the interim Chelsea coach didn’t bench them and Guus’ star players payed him back against Juve, in Torino: 2-2 (3-2 on aggregate). Essien – back from injury – scored the first and Drogba made an end to Juve’s aspirations. Guus still on his winning streak.

Panathinaikos coach Henk ten Cate was convinced he’d progress to the next round, but forgot to check with Villareal. The Spanish side won 1-2 in Greece and Henk can concentrate on the Greek competition now.

Wesley Sneijder was sick of the defeat against The Reds: “We were given football lessons. Aggression is the key to their game. They simply wanted the win more than we. We couldn’t cope with their pace and pressure, we’re simply not in the right form at the moment. It sucks, but that’s what it is. We’ll need to concentrate on the Primera Division now.”

Ryan Babel was a tad subdued after the 4-0 bashing. “I think we can’t complain. The first two goals were a bit iffy. Some refs would have disallowed the first and I do think some refs would have ignored the Heinze hand ball. It might have been his shoulder… But, with 2-0 up, it was a good game for us. And it’s extra fun to have beaten Wes, Raf, Arjen and the rest, hahaha….”

Domestic news: Pierre van Hooijdonk was asked to second Mario Been at Feyenoord next season but the freekick specialist declined. “I want to spend more time with my family. I am highly enjoying being retired and this offer is just too early for me.” Been accepted the “no” from Pi-Air and announced he won’t be looking for a replacement. “In principal, our technical staff is set. I wanted Pi-Air for specialized training sessions and because he is a winner all the way. Too bad he won’t do it, but we’ll work with what we’ve got now.”

WOW I though van Bommel’s goal was fantastic. I loved how he just kinda tapped it past the defender.
